There's a song in Into the Woods that fits with the current situation. It's called the Last Midnight.

Agony is also on topic, especially since it applies to both pro- and anti-Trumpers for now.

“Schadenfreude” from Avenue Q is far more appropriate than either, though. Wink

Democrats have really outdone the Republicans cries of BENGHAZI with their cries of RUSSIA. The sad thing was there was actually collusion between the Trump campaign, including Kushner, and a foreign power, but it was Israel, so none of the people in power care.

https://www.salon.com/2017/12/07/flynn-indictment-exposes-collusion-with-israel-not-russia_partner/

Can you at least wait until the investigation is over to hack endlessly about how terrible teh neolibrulz are?

This is shockingly irresponsible, even for Fox.

That said... if Trump does fire Mueller, his supporters might see it as coup prevention, and whatever protest follow as a literal insurrection, as was apparently implied in other parts of that segment. That’s what scares me about this whole situation: if the Trumplings just write off whatever happens as “fake news,” and Congressional Republicans flat-out refuse to do anything, what happens?

Trump is apparently targeting Rosenstein. Important to remember that firing him and replacing him with a WH lackey would allow the President to indirectly stonewall the investigation -- with far less backlash than a Mueller firing would cause.

Firing Rosenstien = firing Mueller to the public. The end result would be Rosenstein's replacement firing Mueller (I don't think the replacement can stonewall Mueller in any way short of firing him).

I read somewhere that (since Mueller reports to Rosenstein) a new Deputy AG could narrow the scope of the investigation or otherwise stop Mueller from doing things that would incriminate Trump, although some other stuff I've read since you posted this indicates otherwise. Just forget that I said anything Tongue

Don't disagree that this would be terrible, and would cause at least some degree of backlash.

Agreed on both counts (IMO, it probably meant that Strzok didn’t think relaxing the investigation because Trump would lose was a good idea), but this is easy for the Gaetz/possibly Trump types to twist into “the Russia investigation was an insurance policy against Trump getting elected.”

I don’t want to get to deep into 1984 stuff... but let’s just say that I don’t think the Republicans describing what the FBI people did as “collusion” is an accident

Exoneration likely by January... according to Preet Bharara and Andrew McCarthy.

This is not even close to what Preet Bharara has been saying. If you're going to troll, at least put some effort into it.

Is this the story Dworkin was talking about?

So the story is going to drop 10:30 tonight on MSNBC

Clearly discrimination against those of us in the East, not to mention our members in Europe. Wink

10:30 Eastern, I assume?

MSNBC saying they have a dossier-related story for tomorrow. Not sure if that’s in addition to the O’Donnell thing or instead of it.

Additionally, he said that he has "the absolute right to do whatever [he] wants to do with the Justice Department."

If there is one, O'Donnell is about to talk about it after the break. Can't imagine it's much of anything if they shove it into the last five minutes of the program.

It's not even O'Donnell presenting tonight, but Ari Melber. If O'Donnell is breaking a story, it's not breaking tonight.

I know, but he was talking about bringing O'Donnell back to talk about something that I kind of assumed was the report.

However, it appears that O'Donnell is just asking for donations to UNICEF, so you're probably right.

This is probably one of the things Dworkin was talking about, since it basically invalidates the argument that the investigation is based on a partisan dossier, which was what much of the Mueller criticism centered on.

Most significant thing from the excerpts is definitely that Bannon claims Trump not only knew about the Veselnitskya meeting, but met with her himself.

If it's true (although it's a big if, given that it's Bannon we're talking about here) and it's something Mueller knows about, I can't imagine how Trump could survive.

Is it possible that the Special Counsel report recommends impeachment, but the House report exonerates all key figures, and Republicans cite it to keep Trump in office?

Impeachment is a political process. It's not Mueller's job to tell congress how to handle this situation.

Okay, but the point is the same regardless of whether he recommends impeachment specifically or just says that Trump committed crimes/might have committed crimes

I tend to defer to the people in charge on these matters. Not this time.

Who the hell is going to hold these guys accountable? They’re launching a full-court press on not only Mueller and the Justice Department but the idea of an independent Judiciary, and nobody even seems to care.
