Any thoughts on whether to cancel a vacation to Italy in late May?  I guess I have some time to decide, still.

To which region?

The number of cases outside the quarantined area (50,000 residents inside) is fairly low.

I see, well why don't they just pay for a test in a private clinic??

It's the American way! Damn those leeches wanting to get tested off of other people's taxes.

Well it's sad I even have to ask this, but is testing and treatment currently Govt funded over there?

I imagine a couple of weeks on a ventilator there could very well push someone to bankruptcy.

Still planning to go on my Paris vacation this time next week...
Do you have to?

If you're young and healthy, why not?  I understand the elderly and those with underlying problems staying indoors, but as long as he takes the appropriate steps like washing his hands, sanitizing, not putting hands to face, why not.  At this point there is just as much of a chance getting it in North America compared to Europe.

These are my thoughts. It would suck to experience symptoms while there, and I don’t want to end up stuck, but YOLO. I don’t want to throw my money down the drain. If things are closed, they’re closed. We booked the trip last summer because it was dirt cheap, but dirt cheap still a considerable investment for someone repaying student loans. I have no expectations and we’ll make the most of it.

I'm struggling though that decision myself; I'm supposed to leave tomorrow, also for Paris (although I'll be in the south of France). For me, I'm just worried about getting back. Right now, the number of cases in France is about the same as the number that were in Italy on March 1st - I don't like the extrapolation of that to 10 days from now, when I'm supposed to return.

If you booked non-refundable accommodation I'd still go. Very unlikely the US won't allow their citizens to return.

Breaking: First UK MP has tested positive for COVID19.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51827356

Nadine Dorries is a Health Minister in the Johnson administration.

She fell ill on Friday, but held a town hall meeting with 50 constituents over the weekend. She has been in contact with other MPs, and in 10 Downing Street, the Prime Minister's residence, over the last week.

Johnson may have been exposed, the Health Department, including vital figures like the Chief Medical Officer will require testing.

Also, the PM meets the Monarch on a weekly basis. There's no way that Buckingham Palace is going to allow the 93 year old Queen to meet with a potentially infectious Prime Minister.

Tomorrow is going to be a mad day.

Damn. Hope the spread was minimal, politicians are usually older than the national average.
