Trump's core supporters are true believer single-issue immigration voters who want to keep out the dirty brown people. They don't know and don't care that the majority of his proposals are illegal, unconstitutional, or impossible. He could announce support for mandatory partial birth abortions tomorrow and his poll numbers would be unchanged.
Sorry, but you're not grok-ing Trump.
Trump's (and Sanders') core supporters are people who are completely fed up with politics as usual. These folks are looking for a leader who is willing to operate outside what is considered the normal, "establishment" way of doing things. This is the first time that this anti-insider sentiment has reached critical mass, and it's creating a real headache for those who want to continue looking at this contest in the same way as they've done during past presidential cycles. I for one think this is a healthy change, especially in light of Einstein's famous quote about the definition of insanity being "doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results". Perhaps people have just decided to give something new a try...
