This was from yesterday, but Maggie Haberman's new book talks about Trump's habit of ripping up confidential documents and flushing them down the toilet.  White House staff would frequently find the paper fragments when the toilets inevitably needed unclogging.

Remember our toilet scoop in Axios AM earlier this year? Maggie Haberman's forthcoming book about former President Trump will report that White House residence staff periodically found wads of paper clogging a toilet — and believed the former president, a notorious destroyer of Oval Office documents, was the flusher.

Why it matters: Destroying records that should be preserved is potentially illegal.

Trump denied it and called Haberman, whose New York Times coverage he follows compulsively, a "maggot."

Quote
Haberman's sources report the document dumps happened multiple times at the White House, and on at least two foreign trips.

"That Mr. Trump was discarding documents this way was not widely known within the West Wing, but some aides were aware of the habit, which he engaged in repeatedly," Haberman tells us.

"It was an extension of Trump's term-long habit of ripping up documents that were supposed to be preserved under the Presidential Records Act."

The handwriting is visibly Trump's, written in the Sharpie ink he favored.

If you want to go criminally after him , just focus on Jan 6th imo and nothing else

We all saw the photos of clear plastic boxes full of documents being packed up from the White House on Jan 19-20, 2021.  Why not try to find out whether or not he was illegally absconding with papers that were subject to the Presidential Records Act?

It'd be nice to hold Trump accountable for literally any of his crimes, but why focus on one specific avenue and ignore all others?

Cause of the precedent you would set . Like I said should Bush have been prosecuted for Guantanamo Bay or Obama for drones

Why not?  If crimes have been committed, they should be impartially investigated and prosecuted if necessary.  Anything else is a deeply troubling excuse for abuse of power.

Anybody else morbidly curiously awaiting our most loquacious Trump devotee's thoughts on this?  OSR just rambles on about nothing for endless pages, but FB provides the real meat of a true Trumpublican mindset.  Hopefully he's had time to digest Tucker's show by now and is locked, loaded and ready for us!

I don't believe this for a second.

Nothing damaging will come out.

The search warrant will prove nothing.

Far more important is the AFFADAVIT!!!

I have to say I don't like this nuclear stuff. Seems like it's just begging to be something smaller so we can have weeks of pundits saying "They thought he wanted to steal the nuclear football!" as though it's idiocy.

Agreed.  The last 8 hours or so has been a build up of "omg this tweet from Belinda Bluecheckmark from the NYT is now saying that the FBI found an authenticated bill of sale of $100 million for blueprints and specifications to build a nuclear weapon, with a handwritten note signed by Muhammad bin-Salman, which said, "Thanks for the nuclear weapon details, Donald John Trump!  Saudi Arabia appreciates this transaction!""

I don't want to get blue-balled again.  We've been here before.

Republicans seem very... quiet over this. They were stampeding over one another to defend Trump as soon as the news of the raid had broke, but they've largely been silent now that we know what the FBI was looking for.

We're 35 pages into this thread, and Fuzzy Bear still hasn't posted anything in it yet.  He briefly posted in some other thread two days ago that the FBI is politicized and corrupt, but otherwise… *crickets*

By next week we will have arrived at, “Actually here’s 10 reasons why it’s great that Trump wanted to sell our nuclear secrets to Saudi Arabia…”

Also next week: "There's no evidence that the guy who just broke into Judge Bruce Reinhart's home and shot him is a Trump supporter.  Just because he was at the Capitol on January 6th means nothing - he could have been Antifa or an FBI plant."

I hadn't put it together until just now, but Tucker Carlson has been on vacation all week.  No wonder Fuzzy Bear has been absent from this thread, and why conservatives at large have been either silent or scrambling for something to talk about.  Poor folks must be totally lost at sea!  Great timing for your vacay, Tucker. Attacking a poster not here is infra dig. I dissent. I would far prefer that I were attacked in his stead, as one who is here. I mean that.

It's not like he's been banned, or is otherwise incapable of contributing his thoughts like he usually doesn't hesitate to do.  The bodies of the Uvalde children were still warm when he injected his "mah gunnns!!" opinions into that thread, for example.

However, and I say this charitably and earnestly, hopefully he's taking some time away from the internet this week for the sake of his own mental health.  It hasn't been a good week to be a loyal Trump supporter.

Anybody who unnecessarily injects Latin into a conversation is engaging in argumentum ad verecundiam, and is persona non grata as far as I'm concerned.  Anyway, apologies for this non sequitur contribution to this thread.  Mea culpa.

I'm not going anywhere near "Truth" Social, so does anybody know if Trump has in any way denounced the shooting at the FBI building in Ohio, or the massive increase in death threats leveled against Bruce Reinhart (and his synagogue), Garland, or the FBI agents who conducted the raid?

"Don't prosecute Trump, his supporters might react negatively" is perhaps the most reprehensible defense I've seen here.

It implies that Trump supporters devoid of agency and that we must all walk on eggshells to avoid risking their wrath, as if they're a rabid dog that might attack us if we look at it the wrong way. It also implies that if someone has enough supporters, they should be effectively above the law.

It would certainly help if the cult leader himself would issue a single statement to the effect of "Hey you lovely beautiful MAGA folks out there... please stop threatening to kill federal agents and judges, or actually trying to like that one guy in Ohio.  Don't be like that guy.  Love ya!"

His silence on that front - while simultaneously churning out the expected "I HAVE BEEN VIOLATED" garbage every few minutes - is deafening.

How likely am I to get a visit from the FBI if I view that linked google drive with the leaked doc?

It'll be a lot worse than the FBI.  Let's just say you'll be getting a visit from a Colonel.

Rep. Mike Turner offers up excuse #54… or #55?  I lost count some time ago.

Ed O’Keefe followed up on Turner’s comments by asking “what use could a former president have for classified or top secret information once he’s left office? Why bring it home with him to Florida?”

“Well, I don’t know. I mean, you have to ask him,” Turner answered. “But certainly, we all know that every former president has access to their documents. It’s how they write their memoirs."

We absolutely do have a two-tier justice system.

This case ought to have been a slam dunk, but now seems like a complete waste of time and effort due to the bare-faced bias of the judge that the defendant appointed.
