Duckworth's naming of Reddit shows her very deep lack of understanding of the internet. r/the_donald was banned around a year ago. All the conspiracies are on /pol/ on 4chan.

Now that the dust has settled, I hope we can all at least recognize that those calling for the police to fire on the protestors was absolutely insane.  They handled the situation absolutely appropriately and minimized the carnage.  The Congress is already back in session and it doesn't appear that there is any irreparable damage.  It could have been a LOT worse if people had let their emotions direct them.

I agree, but it's valid to point out hypocrisy regarding the BLM protests back in the summer of 2020.

Someone's phone is going off loudly in the Senate lmao, what a Boomer ringtone

You can tell it's a flip phone too.

No, it's an older iPhone. I recognize it.

Why does Trump even care about how the voting goes here? This is a formality that has no effect on the results of the election and basically no one is going to vote for these objections anyway. This is a giant display of petty vanity, just trying to feel good that a handful of Republicans voted for objections.

Everything Donald Trump does has been for petty vanity going back to his early career in business.

no surprise there at all

Embarrassed to be represented by Hyde-Smith.

You've had an Alaska avatar for years IIRC. Consider switching to D-MS if you live in MS.

This is honestly the harshest I’ve ever seen the GOP rebuke Trump outside of the usual suspects like Romney, Flake, etc.

Too little, too late of course. But could this mean the tide is turning for the future? Or is it impossible now for them to contain the monster they have unleashed?

It means they're trying to contain the monster, but it's too early to tell if they have any chance of success.

Anyway, is there a reason to keep watching the Senate livestream at the moment?

If Trump is not removed via the 25th or impeached, expect him not only to pardon himself but also to pardon the mob. These pardons will be upheld to the outrage of the media and the common citizen alike, and the mob will give us all the middle finger with their soyface images as they get to continue to enjoy their rich lives in their conservative bubbles.

Last line clear hint for 2024. If he truly does leave office on January 20th and nothing weird happens again then that's his plan.

And I guarantee you the blue avatars condemning him now will gladly vote for him again in 2024, because "muh Biden," or "muh Kamala," or whatever else.

If that comes to pass, they will be joined by tens of millions of voters, including the majority of voters from Ohio, Iowa, and Florida.

We, of course, don't know if he has accepted defeat or if he has agreed to play the role of a President accepting defeat for the sake of avoiding conviction in the US Senate.

Something that's been bothering me:

When I watched Joe Biden speak live, all I could think about is how elderly and frail he sounded. He didn't sound strong, and strength is something we need in light of a mob attack on the Capitol. He sounded very weak. I don't have confidence in him.

Calmness isn't weakness.  It's just something that we're not used to from a President lately.

Have confidence in this: Joe Biden has kept a cool head throughout ALL of this. The only time he was even close to losing his cool was during the first "debate" and who the hell could blame him. Joe Biden knows what he is doing. He knows the system. He knows to keep competent people around him. His administration will run smoothly.

I understand your points of view but my issue isn't his calmness, it's his image of a tired and frail old man.

The real goal here is to avoid conviction by the Senate. He'll succeed. Sad
