From what I've read it just seems like a lot of the people there have a huge independent, special-snowflake streak and value that more than putting together a viable ticket.  Poor Bill Weld may be sacrificed to satiate the Libertarian ego.  They can nominate Reddit-debate-thread-robot Austin Peterson and, I don't even know, some guy who owns a Wendys in Harlem and writes posts on internet forums about libertarianism, and go back to fighting with the Green Party and the Constitution Party for third place.

Also, libertarian ideas are stupid, for the record.

All libertarian ideas? Even the ones that mesh with either half of the red/blue sides?  Or do you just mean the extreme ideas like very small government, no taxation, gold standard, etc?

The extreme ideas.  But also the general underlying philosophy that those extreme ideas are a natural extension of.  A well-functioning central government is key to making a society greater than the sum of its parts.  Whether we have such a government or not can be debated but to say that the ideal is to not have one is ludicrous.

Honestly wish I was there.  I love all the packed outside-the-room negotiations while people are speaking.  Takes me back to my days as a ruthless Model UN shark.

Thank god they're not shouting down routine procedural motions, after what happened in Nevada I was worried when this woman started off.

EDIT:  Never mind!  I didn't even hear the motion to move into voting procedure though?  How long have they been voting?

Weird coincidence, I just spent half an hour looking up Everest climbing paths out of curiosity thanks to Gary Johnson, and then switch to CNN and the top story is about people dying on Everest.  CNN thinking the same thing?

Feldman for Weld.

Very strange speech.  "Weld would not BE on my VP list, he's very close with Kasich, and he kicked libertarians off the ballot, and he wants to take guns from people, and he endorsed Bush.  As for the positives, well he's a life member of the party.  It's an honor for me to put his name in the nomination.  End of speech."

Seeing how many people moved to Johnson on the second ballot, I predict the same will happen to Weld.  I don't see why anyone would have voted for Weld after hearing all those anti-Weld speeches and then switch away from him.  Sharpe doesn't have anything to offer and Johnson is obviously firmly on Weld's side.

So the Libertarians nominated a dull former R governor for president, a dull former R governor for Vice president, and a Harry Potter vampire for VP alternate??

Who's the Harry Potter vampire?  Perry?

Weld is a bit concerning for me. He's only a VP, but he said he had a good relationship with the Clintons, he's super low energy, doesn't want to go on offense on anything. It's pretty clear that this is an attempt of desperation, that he's really pretending to be a libertarian, and that Johnson is using him for the purpose of gaining a higher profile.

Johnson's pretty damn low-energy too and probably had a good relationship with the Clintons since he was governor during Bill's second term.

If the Libertarians go on offense they'll just irritate everyone.  What they need to do is let Hillary and Trump tear each other apart and promote themselves as a viable third option.

I continue to struggle to understand this party. I thought the purpose of this party was to preserve personal freedoms as long as they don't increase the risk of harm to other people. Yet, the party goes full moron and anarchist and boos driver's licenses even though they probably keep a handful of unqualified drivers off of the road to stop deadly crashes. That's what I would consider a risk of harm to other people. Meanwhile, hurr durr, governments want to issue drivers licenses for control. This was completely disappointing.

There are a lot of people who just want to have unique, pure, hardline-consistent political views so they can act smarter than everyone else.  It's pretty easy to do when your views have no chance of becoming law and will thus never actually affect anyone.
