Consider the highlighted portion.  This is what Trump is doiing.  And he's gaining traction doing it because folks are fed up with their concerns being marginalized.  That's the political environment we are in today, and Trump has exploited it.

True. Trump would not be doing so well if he weren't hitting on something real. What he is doing is tapping into the zeitgeist. You know those poll questions that ask something like "understands people like you?" That's Trump. He gets what ordinary Americans are going through in this economy.

How the heck?

Ordinary Americans need abortions, universal healthcare, non-free trade, and are born into a multimillionaire's home.

Listen: Trump's father owned $300,000,000 by the time Donald Trump was eighteen. Trump didn't go from zero to a billion. Ordinary Americans never have the luxury of owning half of Manhattan. I won't get that luxury by working 100%.

To be clear, Trump is not an ordinary American. He is an exceptional American.

However, despite his extraordinary wealth and success, it seems that he has his finger on the pulse of the American people. It's a connection that only the greats have, and that is particularly rare among people of Trump's level of exceptionality. The best comparison I can think of for someone that is clearly not an ordinary American having this sort of understanding of ordinary Americans is probably FDR.

She would make a good VP, and could help Trump with women voters.

He gave over $100k to the DSCC in the last election. He gave more to Republican groups, but The Donald's gonna have some splaining to do at the debates. How do you think Iowa Republicans will react to being told Trump helped fund Bruce Braley? Or NH Pubs when told his money helped keep Shaheen in office?

The downfall will start there.......

He has already explained this. He has said that he is a businessman, so he gives to both parties, in order to obtain access. This is common practice in business. Trump was buying something by making a donation. People who support him know this and understand the rationale.

The fact is, Trump has identified as a Democrat and is a Keynesian on economics so that explains his donations.

If that is your story, what explains his donations to Republicans?

He has donated to both (more to Republicans). If you say he is just a Dem, you can't explain his GOP donations. If you say he is just GOP, you can't explain his Dem donations. The only explanation that works is the obvious one, and is what he says - that he was bribing both political parties at the same time.
