Growing up, my family always told me that we had some Native American ancestry.
Then I took a DNA and found out that we didn't. I don't think my situation is particularly unusual or embarrassing or anything like that. All she has to do is shrug it off and say "turns out our family story wasn't true."
This. I don't see why it's necessary for her to keep saying that she's Native American.
Or she can just be honest and say that no one knows if it's true, but some stupid people would call that a cop-out.
