I might play--I have a few ideas of ways I could take this that could be too tempting to pass up.

I have a question: what are the requirements to be PM? Does one have to be a natural born citizen?

Musk for America 1.2 - Announcement Speech

Elon Musk gives his announcement speech at UCLA

Hello, thank you for coming here. As you've probably heard, I've filed to run for Parliament representing California's 33rd district. And the rumors are true--I am also running for the Leadership of the Independence Party!

America is the greatest country in the world. Why? Because we're founded on individual rights, innovation, and independence. People can do what they want, think what they want, and build a better future for everyone. In 1995, as immigrants, me and my brother started a company called Zip2 with $28,000. Four years later we sold it for $307 million. The rest of the story many of you know--PayPal, Tesla, SpaceX, SolarCity, OpenAI, et cetera--but this isn't about what I've done, this is about what we can do.

America is the greatest country in the world--but we can't rest on our laurels. A great country is one that continually strives to improve and solve problems, instead of getting complacent and coasting on past success. I'm running because Parliament has consistently proven to be incapable, inefficient, or just unwilling when it comes to solving our problems.

The problems of our country our things we must come together and solve, not political footballs to toss around and score points off of. The out of control national debt, climate change, the incarceration rate, the cycle of endless war, the broken immigration system, racial tension and hatred among groups of people, an inefficient education system that keeps children from learning to their full potential--these are problems we can't keep ignoring or finding excuses for.

I have great respect for Rand Paul, Rob Portman, and Bill Weld. These are great public servants who have helped America, but why should we trust a career politician or Washington insider to bring us out of this mess, when it's career politicians and Washington insiders who have failed us? I am the only candidate running for the Independence Party leadership who has been successful at a large scale in the private sector. I know how the private sector works, I know how technology works, I understand the unique challenges and opportunities we are presented with in the internet age.

It's time America has fresh leadership, and with your help, it will be time America has Independence! Thank you!

Musk for America 2.2 - Debate Responses

"I think if we bring an exciting approach based on the future, with common-sense solutions people can get behind, we can expand the party immensely. An ideology that supports people living their own lives and spending their own money, with a government treating people fairly and being responsible with taxpayer dollars, is actually something most people can get behind--we just need a fresh approach to tap into that appetite."

"The main issue that I'm concerned about--both in my private ventures and my newfound political career--is the future. A focus on increasing the probability that the future is good, and that has several sub-focuses. While things like criminal justice reform, a smart defense against terrorism without engaging in wasteful wars, and reforming the education system are crucially important topics, if I had to choose three I'd go with, in no particular order: a) balancing the budget to keep later generations from reaping the consequences of our debt, b) taking measures to curb climate change, and c) making sure that American democracy is alive and well, everyone gets representation in parliament, and everyone's constitutional rights are protected, so we never lose what makes America great."

"Not sure about the Jacksonians, but I think Independence can ally with several different parties. It all comes down to who has the best vision for the future, and with whom we can work together. The Progressives and Liberals share many of our social views, while the Conservatives and Nationalists share many of our economic views, and even the Jacksonians share our view that neither the left nor the right has all the answers."

"I've had success in the private sector, and I understand how to put together a team of good, intelligent, hard-working people who specialize in different areas. I don't think there's anything special career politicians have. I try to put in the extra effort in everything I do, and the only real difference I have with them is a new perspective on how to do things."

(Not dropping out, just going to be less active in this game for at least a few weeks.)

ELON MUSK KIDNAPPED BY RUSSIANS!

Photo of Musk campaigning before his kidnapping.

Manchester, NH--Shortly before his victory speech after winning the Independence Party New Hampshire primary--an impressive feat for someone who has never held political office--party leadership candidate Elon Musk was apparently taken hostage by secret Russian agents outside the Ed Muskie Memorial Auditorium.

The South African-born Musk, who first rose to prominence as the co-creator of PayPal, was attempting to become the first Prime Minister not to have either political or military experience, and the first Prime Minister not to be a natural born citizen. Some argue Ted Cruz, vying for the Nationalist leadership, is attempting the latter feat as well, while Jacksonian Donald Trump is attempting the former feat.

The Musk for America Campaign Manager, Victoria Atalcost, recieved text messages from the billionaire. After asking why the SpaceX CEO wasn't there, he responded that he was "getting fresh air" and would be there in time to make the speech. When Atalcost sent a follow-up, the CEO of Tesla Motors responded "being kidnapped by russians rn ttyl."

Musk's claims can be validated by sightings of a helicopter with the words "Property of the Russian Government" on the side, the contents of that helicopter including the 45-year-old Chairman of Solar City looking rather annoyed with the turn of events, and an unknown fellow maniacally laughing.

After stating that he's probably safe and expects to return, the Co-Chairman of OpenAI texted Atalcost to "pls continue the campaign thnx."

While this is expected to hurt his electoral chances, his capture has dominated the news and social media, and you know what they say, "all publicity is good publicity."
