Given that Hillary will probably win, the Pubs should really process the Garland nomination, and confirm him if it goes well. I suppose they could stall until it gets closer to the election, to confirm that Trump is DOA, but Hillary will pick someone less to the Pub's liking, and the Dems might well have control of the Senate.

This is what I'm thinking, too. The Republicans seem like 3 distinct parties right now--and that's not even including any possible libertarian vote they consistently alienate (hi, guys!)--I'm just having a very hard time imagining how anyone with an R next to their name could get enough of all three factions (est./mod., tea party/evangelical, and the Trumpists) considering that two of the factions will most likely hate them.

You have three candidates, and whichever one you go with will lead to significant backlash. Yeah, Hillary has major weaknesses, but I seriously doubt she'll have a tenth of the backlash will see in the GOP camp this summer.

As much as I dislike the prospect of Hillary becoming President, it's more likely that not she will. And when that happens, I'm afraid we'll see people who make ol' Merrick here look like Antonin Scalia.
