I have returned after an extended abscence. I apologize to whomever I have failed to contact, but I have been vacationing for the last seven months in Italy and France. I also left because I had intended to get married, but I have decided against it for philosophical reasons. I personally oppose same-sex marriage now, because I have come to realize that no progress is made by emulating the most reactionary aspects of heterosexual sexuality, and indeed, it de-radicalizes our culture by imposing the chafing boundary of monogamy upon us. I do, however, support allowing it as a legal choice for those who wish to enter into one.

A woman after my own heart. I just wish some of the people around here would be more like Elisabet Vogler in Bergman's Persona (my favorite film).

I'm pleased to meet you, Joe Republic. I wonder which one of my erstwhile "friends" had words about me.

I look forward to hearing from my good friend Opebo again. Though I disagree with his economic views, he is this forum's voice of social liberty.

Well, I suppose I'm quite a radical, and spending a long time in Europe hasn't exactly ameliorated that. Nice to talk to you.

Oh dear. This story about my position on infanticide has taken on a life of its own. What I have maintained from the very beginning, and if you don't believe me check all my postings on this matter, is this: I said that I support the right of the mother of an infant born before viability who cannot survive independently to make the decision about whether or not to perform euthanasia. This does not give carte blanche authority to kill newborns, but allows mothers who had a reasonable expectation that they still had time to make that choice about whether they wished to have children to make it, albeit under somewhat different circumstances.

I am dismayed to report, Al, that Scranton remains unchanged. Smiley

I must say, PBrunsel, that that is kindest and most meaningful compliment I ever received at this forum. I thank you very much, and I am glad to talk to you again.

Also, I have spent quite a bit of time reviewing my views, and I couldn't help but notice the logical contradictions of my previous position. I realized that the dual nature of my culture is created precisely by not embracing such institutions as marriage and the Boy Scouts, and I changed my mind. I believe my new position is far better than my old one, and wholly more consistent with my guiding philosophy.

Hi, Supersoulty! I'm happy to hear from you again. I look forward to reading your posts in the future.

I've been reading some of the posts made in my abscence. I've discovered that I wasn't exactly adored by some, but I can live with that. I don't need universal approval. I must say, Jake, that comment comparing me to a holocaust movie was funny. I'll have to spring that on some unsuspecting victim if you would be so kind as to allow me to use your material.

I'd like to say hello to all my friends who have wished me a good return.

I did hear of Ms. Schwartz's victory, Handzus, and by vanquishing that irredeeming bigot, she was one of the few bright spots in an alltogether dismal election night. I was in Milan when the results came in, and believe me, many were weeping in the streets.

I spent a month in Cote d'Azur, JFK, and then some time in Lombardy, the Veneto, and finally a long stay in Tuscany. Italy is such a beautiful country, and I miss it terribly.

I was in the actual city of Venice for three weeks (hopefully in a less decadent fashion than Gustav von Aschenbach), and then I went through the rest of the Veneto for a week, though at times I might have been in the Emilio-Romagna. I'm so bad with direction that I could have been in Austria and wouldn't have known it.

I prefer northern Italy, though I once vacationed in Taormina, Sicily and had a wonderful time.
