Not saying this is actually good news for Dems or anything, but that amounts to <7% of the 2020 vote, so there's still a lot of room for earlys + late voters to make an impact.

So, it's literally two datapoints, but I think it's interesting that in Washington State, just 8% say crime is their top issue, while nationally it's at 12%. Not so much because crime is rampant here or anything, but because "vote for me because of crime" has been like 75% of Smiley's Senate campaign.

I'm curious - are the "what is your top issue" polls usually asked with pre-set potential answers or do the respondents volunteer answers? Cuz I feel like if I had to pick from a list, I'd probably give a different answer than if I could say what my top issues are, the latter being a lot more abstract and not-one-word-long.

27% listing abortion as their most important issue makes me think the exit polls shared the problem of contacting too many high information white progressives that the horse race polls did

Both Dave Wasserman and Sean Trende are hinting on Twitter about a possible upset in FL-23 based on what they're seeing in the early vote numbers.

Lol, I was nervous for a second before I remembered who that is. That would be very funny.

I'm suddenly not seeing the New button on any threads.  Anyone else seeing this?

I think Virginia's removing some features to keep the forum up and running with so many users online.

26 Pages without a single election result lol.

If we've kept it to 26 pages, I think that means we've matured a bit since the 2020 Democrat Veepstakes. 295 freaking pages of "It's Harris. It's definitely Harris. Yeah, it's probably Harris." before, lo and behold, it turned out to be Harris.

I have to say I'm feeling better than I was at this point on election night 2016/20. Not saying Dems will get a miracle or anything, just that Rubio winning the Miami-Dade EV hurts my soul a lot less than seeing Biden up single digits there two years ago.

Apologies if this has been discussed elsewhere, but does anybody know how Florida counts so freaking fast?  It's amazing, especially compared to here in AZ or in CA.
They count absentee Ballots ahead of time.

Is there a good reason other states don't do this besides paranoia about vote by mail?

I could be wrong, but I think Florida requires mail ballots arrive to be processed before polls close, while some other states (I know Washington is one of them) don't. So, Florida already has all its ballots to count, while ballots will still be coming in for a couple days in other places.

But yeah, California, New York, Arizona, plenty others need to get their act together.

Anyway it does kind of seem like there will be a red wave localized within Florida to some degree lol this is insane

Which is ironic, since if there's any state that should be concerned with massive waves, it'd be Florida.

Massachusetts will officially get its first woman governor!

First lesbian governor in the US too.

Should say "openly" since there's been many a rumor about former Washington Governor Dixy Lee Ray, although whatever secrets there may have been there have died with her.

THE NEEDLE (praise be) currently has control of the House at 76% Republican. And at least I've played the expectations game well enough with myself that that feels really, really good this far into the night.

Is the Florida massacre the result of a bunch of Midwestern Republicans moving there?

And if so, what impact does their absence have on the Rust Belt elections?

In addition to all the things pushing the Cubans to the right, I think some of it might just be generational turnover. What was a big Greatest+Silent Generation population in Florida is now a Boomer population, and specifically one that has watched Florida over the last couple decades and thought "yes, gimme some of that."

And the Libertarian candidate is currently at 1.6%. So that'd probably be runoff territory.

If Dems hold the trifecta, not only should relations with Cuba be normalized, but they should also elevate Cuba to #1 "best friend" status

10-hour Havana syndrome recording on repeat to be named new US national anthem.

Chase Oliver's (GA Libertarian) numbers have been steadily going up all night - was 1.3% in the initial results, 1.6% maybe 30 minutes ago, and now 1.8%. The higher that number, the more likely a runoff is in the works.
