From The Stranger: Hundreds of Fans Walked Out of Sunday’s Sounders Game

Quote
Sounders fans had plenty to cheer about Sunday in their team's 4-2 win, but by the end of the match the Sounders' most loyal supporters were nowhere to be seen. Hundreds of fans had left the CenturyLink stadium mid-game after officials stopped them from flying an anti-fascist flag because it was too overtly political.

...

The flag in question is the so-called “Iron Front” flag, a banner with three parallel arrows that was used by anti-Nazi organizers in Germany in the 1930s. Hitler banned the Iron Front out of Germany in 1933 and MLS took a similar tack earlier this year, telling fans that they could wear the Iron Front logo on T-shirts but Iron Front flag-waving would not be tolerated.

This is the flag in question:

Censorship is inherently anti-liberal, and they certainly don't seem to be coming from a leftist angle here.

There's also the fact that this new policy just so happens to coincide with them announcing a major sponsorship agreement with Chick Fil A.

There's also the, uh, issue with certain far-right groups trying to claim NYCFC as their team. I don't really blame NYCFC or the MLS for this. But I have to question why they make such a point about banning antifa flags on the grounds of being too "overtly political" while making no such gesture towards the Empire State Ultras, simply because they wear their fascist symbols instead of waving them.

There are also loads of Cascadia flags at every Sounders/Timbers/Whitecaps match. And while those aren't overtly political, it's not like the people who wave those flags are waving them for a different reason than those waving the antifa flags. It's just the granola version of "Don't Tread on Me."
