It seems like Macron's victory in France matched what Clinton and her supporters were hoping for from her candidacy - the union of left, right, and center to definitively take out a far-right candidate. And yet the two results speak for themselves - Macron was able to coalesce Melenchon, Hamon, and Fillon voters (each to varying degrees) to take out Le Pen by 30+ points while Clinton could hardly claim to have brought out the leftist voters against Trump, and only marginally took from previously center-right Republicans, while Trump managed to win over practically all "historically" Republican voters, including staunch supporters of his primary opponents.

Basically my question boils down to: Why was Macron seen as the more palatable of the two choices to Fillon and his supporters, but Hillary was not to Kasich, Bush, or Rubio supporters?

Another thing is that, unlike Hillary, Macron's economic plans were, from what I've heard and read, pro-business.

That's "Macron was more centrist, and was thus appealed more palatable to the center-right than Clinton", just worded in Buzzwordese.

Yeah, that was a typo. I mean to say "appeared," rather than "appealed," but this is a poll. So, alas...
