Would any of the Libertarian Party members like to help write a new platform?  I just thought I'd take the intiative to get things rolling.  We can use this thread to bounce around ideas.

The list of Libertarians (to date) follows:
A18
CheeseWhiz
John Dibble
Milk_and_cereal
MissCatholic
South Park Republican

UPDATE: A18 has just joined.

I think I still have the platform we worked on back in December Dibble. I'll see if I can dig it up for you.

I’d really like to see it.  I was trying to write a Platform before you said that, and I re-discovered something: I’m not a good writer Tongue

Oh, Jake, come back to the Libertarians.  If Phil hasn’t kicked NixonNow out yet, he never will.  I don’t think such a trollish party is the place for a good guy like you.  You’ve tried to resurrect the Libertarians before and I need your help doing it now.

Something else I wanted to bring up:  Do we need a Chairman or is Dibble already holding that post?

I’m going to announce my intention to run for the National Chairman (and try to steal all of Phil’s ACA members Wink)
Okay, so when should we have a convention?  Should we have an emergency convention, since we don’t have a Chairman?  Or should we wait until the June elections?

And about candidates for the June races…  We have a Presidential candidate (John Dibble) who looks like he has a good chance of winning.  I’m not going to be running for any office in June (I’ll be in the middle of my term.)

This is a list of all the races between now and the Presidential race, plus all of the AFLP members that can run, are running and are not running

MAY 20TH:
Mideast Governor: South Park Republican, Milk_and_cereal and A18

JUNE 3RD:
Northeast Governor: No one

JUNE 17TH:
Presidential: John Dibble
Northeast Senate: No one
Mideast Senate: South Park Republican, Milk_and_cereal and A18
Southeast Senate: John Dibble
Midwest Senate: MissCatholic and CheeseWhiz
Pacific Senate: No one

Out of these I think the only person that we could run in these races is Milk_and_cereal, but if he wants to run, he’d have to become more active on the Fantasy boards.

Here are some bylaws I have written:

Duties of the National Chair
The duties of the National Chairman consist of opening and closing convention, endorsement votes, emergency meetings and anything else not specified to a certain post.

Duties of the Deputy Chair
The duties of the Deputy Chairman are to perform the duties of the National Chairman when he or she is unable or not present, for any reason, and in the event that the National Chairman resigns or is expelled, the Deputy Chair shall assume the position of the National Chair.

Duties of the Regional Chairmen
The duties of the Regional Chairmen shall be to recommend candidates for endorsement to the National body, specifically, the offices of Governor and Lieutenant Governor (if applicable.) They will also make recommendations on regional ballot initiatives (if any.)

Conventions
The Convention shall be held one month before every Federal election and will last two weeks unless a motion to extend the Convention is voted on and passes.  Members will elect a new National Chairman, Deputy Chairman and the Regional Chairmen; they will also vote on any revisions to the platform or bylaws.  Regional Chairmen shall be elected by the members in that specific Region only.  Only currently registered members shall be able to run for a Chairman position.

Endorsement Vote
Two weeks before an election the members shall vote on endorsements in each race.  A candidate must obtain over half the vote in order to receive the endorsement.  If, after the endorsement vote, another candidate enters the race, there must be a motion made by a member, and seconded, to have another endorsement vote.  If another member of the AFLP enters, another endorsement vote shall take place immediately.  If there is a special election, an emergency endorsement vote shall take place immediately.

Banning a Member
If any member of the party feels that another member has done something inappropriate which he or she feel deserves a violation review, that person may make a motion to do so.  If this motion is seconded, then the members of the party must partake in a debate.  This debate shall end when a twenty-four hour period has passed without debate.  After the debate, there shall be two votes:  One among the Chairmen and one among the Membership.  The motion must pass with 60% or more, in each round of voting, in order for the member to be banned.

Is there anything I missed?

And would anyone like to make an AFLP website?

I asked Gabu to make an official banner for our party; here it is:

Also, as no one seems to be doing anything in this party, I have declared myself SUPREME DICTATOR OF THE LIBERTARIAN PARTY!!![/irony]  Wink

Well, the Supreme Dictator has decided that we will hold our next convention on the May 20th - June 6th, unless someone has an objection.

Since no one has objected...  Does anyone have suggestions for a Convention Location?

I suggest:
Atlanta, Georgia
Omaha, Nebraska
Detroit, Michigan
Richmond, Virginia
Rapid City, South Dakota

Atlanta, Georgia was my first choice, too.  I picked one place from each members state.  So, all Libertarian members please vote for a Convention site:

I cast my vote for Atlanta, Georgia

I will close this vote on May 18th.
