I'm shocked, absolutely shocked. Never thought this was going to happen...

Tbh, 2016 set a new precedent that reflects the deep partisan divisions in this country and in DC. From now on, it will be pretty much the norm a prez won't have SCOTUS and judicial nominees approved while the opposition party controls the senate. Not even moderate compromise candidates, there just won't be confirmation. Not even a congressional hearing. NOTA.

We can just hope Breyer isn't putting his ego over these political realties and retire in time.

Breyer has 1 year to retire, otherwise, he might have to wait until 2029 or later if/when Democrats get the Senate back.

This of course, assumes that Breyer doesn't die in office like Ginsburg did, and that he doesn't die during a potential second Trump term or a DeSantis term. That is what Democrats are truly concerned about.

Breyer dying seems more much more likely. No member of his family even lived beyond 70 to the best of my knowledge. Or just retires at some point no matter who's POTUS or in charge of the senate.

I'm growing increasingly frustrated with him. I though he should wait a few months after Biden took office to let him take care of the most urgent duties. 11 months in, he definitely needs to retire unless he doesn't care about a 7-2 SCOTUS.
