Joint tickets, because in the case of death, impeachment or resignation, a member of the same party should assume the office. Some lt. govs become acting gov. when the incumbent leaves his state. I personally prefer the gubernatorial nominee picking his running mate, but would also be ok with a separate primary. The separate election is nonsense and I hope CA changes that one day (just as our horrible jungle primary).
