2017: Les Republicains, wholeheartedly. 2012: Sarkozy, a Union for a Popular Movement (both rounds) 2007: Sarkozy, a Union for a Popular Movement (both rounds) 2002: Madelin, Liberal Democracy (1st Round); Chirac, Rally for the Republic (2nd Round) 1995: Villiers, Movement for France (1st Round); Jospin, Socialist Party(2nd Round) 1988: Mitterand, Socialist Party (both rounds) 1981: Debré, Gaullist Miscellaneous Right (1st Round); Mitterand, Socialist Party (2nd Round) 1974: Chaban-Delmas, Union of Democrats for the Republic (1st Round); Mitterand, Socialist Party (2nd Round) 1969: Poher, Democratic Centre (both rounds) 1965: Gaulle, Union for a New Republic (both rounds) (Reluctantly) 1958: Gaulle, Union for a New Republic (both rounds) (Reluctantly)
I thought Spain was hard, but, boy, France took a while!
2007-2017: I clearly support UMP/Les Republicains. Not exactly a fan of Sarkozy but certainly a better fit for me then Hollande. I will say I like Manuel Valls a lot, so if he ever becomes PS leader in the future, I'd support him.
1995-2002: Madelin and Villers and their parties aren't perfect but much preferable to Chirac. However, I'd support Chirac the 2nd round in 2002.
1969-1988: I'm all over the map. Poher, Chaban-Delmas, Debre - all great men. Mitterand's positive view on the French Jewish Community certainly would've locked up my vote for him in the 2nd round of multiple elections. His even handed approach to the Middle East is x1000 better then VGE or Chirac's pro-arab world slants, so despite my clear opposition to the economic policies of Mitterand, I'd vote for him in multiple 2nd rounds and in both rounds of 1988.
1958-1965: Gaulle deserves respect, even if I disagreed with his foreign policy going into his latter years.
