Why are people voting for the failure that is Carter?
He's probably had the best post-Presidency of any President. Has a kickass biography. Deregulated the airlines and moved the dial on peace in the Middle East. Pretty successful record actually.
Carter deserves credit for making peace w/ Israel and Egypt, but he had not accomplished anything else in the region.
It was Reagan who initiated real peace talks w/ the Palestinians (via recognizing and meeting w/ PLO).
It was Reagan (with a weapons sale to Saudi Arabia) and H.W. Bush (with his warm relationship w/ the Arab world) who helped cultivate closer relations w/ regional powers that would later be used to participate in initiatives that benefit U.S. national interests (including peace).
It was Clinton who made peace w/ Jordan + moved the needle on the Israeli-Palestinian talks in the 1990's and early 2000's.
It was W. Bush who made the roadmap for peace w/ Israel and the Palestinians that eventually led to the withdrawal from Gaza.
And it is of very important note to state that Carter had not contributed to any of these peace talk breakthroughs. In fact, Carter's main role post-presidency was to serve as a constant nuisance and a constant supporter of enemies of the United States (Hamas, Hugo Chavez etc...etc...).
It should also not be forgotten that Carter was directly responsible for the Iranian Hostage Crisis (which he horrible mismanaged) by not supporting the Shah before his downfall.
Carter joins Eisenhower, Ford, and now Obama as well, as President's with incredibly flawed foreign policies.
