If you had told me before the election that the result would lead to Kevin McCarthy not becoming Speaker, I would've had a much different result in mind.
How so?

What if you have two Representatives with the same last name in the same state? How does the Clerk call them up?

One of two black Republicans in Congress. Typical Trumpy MAGA Republican. First elected in 2020. Represents FL-19, a district in Southwestern Florida (I would actually live in his district had my family moved to FL back in 2017 like we considered).
Ah. No wonder, of all the reps who I was not sure about who they were based off last name, it was him.

They have been saying the full names "Robert Garcia" and "Mike Garcia" for the two Garcias of California.
Ah. So that's how they do it.

Maybe "present" should be the compromise candidate
The real compromise candidate is the friends we made along the way.

Not really paying attention. Who’s gonna be speaker when it’s all said and done?

Well, dude, we just don't know.
Unfortunately. Or fortunately.

This is the most pathetic thing in US politics I've seen in a long time.

I don't know, there's been a lot of heavy hitters over the last 6-7 years

that photo of McCarthy is gold and has a ton of meme potential.

Kevin McCarthy is officially the first meme of 2023.

CSPAN reporting that (if I heard it correctly) of the fourteen multiple-ballot speaker elections, ballots 4-8 have never resulted in a successful vote.
Well, that sure seems inspiring for the chances of ballot number #3,031 when the GOP establishment tries to push McCarthy for speaker.

My bet's on a consensus moderate R with D support right now, but nobody really knows.

I'm hoping for this, and it's looking likelier and likelier.

This would be the best ending

I agree, though given your username, I'm not sure what you consider the "best ending" is actually best for America lmfao.

lol you got me, I'm hoping this chaos leads to a motion to rejoin the empire

Forget Jeffries. Given his politics, I actually think Fred Upton might unironically be a great pick as Speaker of the House of Commons - longtime legislator, centre-right, establishmentarian.
Upton would not be too bad of a Speaker, if I had to guess.

It's like playing "spot the difference" with 6 different very long videos (two of which are actually completely identical).
Corporate needs you to spot the difference between these two pictures.

Fifth ballot

He's still a historic choice for speaker. Is Cori Bush jealous that she also doesn't have a band of 20 extremists to vote her for Speaker?
Probably.

Yeah I'm sure she's really jealous that there isn't a band of lunatics preventing her party's agenda.
She's probably jealous that Donalds is getting votes and sent an angry tweet. I was agreeing solidly with the first part, not commenting on the second.

Republicans are really hard obsessed with the border this time around.

I've noticed they've alluded to fentanyl (saying it's all coming over the border) multiple times as well.
Every single day we've had a speech mentioned fentanyl.

Where is the jealousy? She correctly pointed out the tokenism in the nomination that Republicans practically admitted was the motivation behind it. There was no reason for him to be nominated other than him being Black.
I agree there is tokenism involved, but even a token can make history, and what she was saying is irrelevant to that section no matter how many things she appended after it.
