Biden won it pretty solidly 63.9 Biden, 34.8 Trump.  Even when Bush was GOP leader, pretty sure both Kerry and Gore won Houston proper although bombed badly in suburbs thus why Bush won Harris County.  Nonetheless, Bush did get in 40s so did fairly well for a city that size.

Favorite son is always an asterisk accomplishment.

The most impressive part of Bush's electoral performances in Texas is easily his win in Travis County in 2000.
Wiki says about his 2000 run as well:
"Bush carried 230 of Texas's 254 counties. He racked up big margins in the Texas Panhandle, East Texas, the Permian Basin, the Texas Hill Country, and the Gulf Coast. He won every major and mid-sized city with the exceptions of El Paso, Laredo, Brownsville, McAllen, and Beaumont, all of which were carried by Vice President Al Gore."
It can be inferred he won Houston in 2000.

Oh the days when Jefferson County was more democratic than Harris.
The days of King of the Hill and South Park, the days when a Democrat represented George Bush's ranch and a Republican represented parts of Southwest Dallas.
Texas has changed a lot in 15 years.
