What people need to realise is that the present system is essentially a calculated hypocrisy: a total ban on abortion in Ireland has been made possible and workable to a large extent because of the ease of travel to Great Britain. Indeed the right to travel to other countries to have an abortion is also in the constitution...
While I don't doubt there is hypocrisy involved, it's still better to have that arrangement than a one, say, along the lines of the United States...

Surely the fact that 70% of the population in a country that currently has a ban on abortion voted to get rid of it shows just how ridiculous the current law is?

And yes, this is something that should be celebrated.

The choice is between a bottle of odd-tasting milk, and a glass with a mix of water and urine. I'd prefer the milk any day...

Congrats Ireland on joining the civilized world by putting choice and those progressive feels over lives.
lol
>"progressive"
>"civilized world"=somehow equaling devaluing the life of the unborn
>"choice"

Everything wrong with the pro-choice position, in a nutshell!

... I believe he was being sarcastic.
If that's the case, I apologize.
I find the use of those talking points, when used in favor of killing the unborn, to be total garbage.

Should Roe ever get overturned, I have no doubt US public opinion would start to look a lot more like those results than what we see today.
It's actually the other way around. Ireland remains more anti-abortion than the US; and public opinion in America would need to look more like Ireland's in order to be Roe to be overturned...

Is there any good Irish polling on the public's preferred abortion policy? I.e. X weeks limit, exceptions for Y &Z etc.

I would imagine that well over 70% of Americans back abortion-on-demand up to 12 weeks...

The fact that nearly 90% of 18-24 year olds voted repeal, although unsurprising, gives me chills.

In the US, most abortion polls show no age gap and some even show a slight reverse age gap.  I wonder why Ireland is so different.

All of that is completely false.

Welp, Thatcher won the female vote in all three of her general elections. I guess she wasn't a conservative!
