I'm not sure if this has been done before, but it will be interesting nonetheless.

I wonder whether the results of this poll will correlate with actual US state population estimates...

I'm surprised so many people say that they're from another nation.

gah if only we had pictures next to our posts of where we lived

But there's no way to figure out how many people are from each state unless a poll is done.

IL is winning right now...

Overall, though, the results of this poll do seem to be fairly correlative to overall US state population %s.

Technically speaking, there is.

You may argue, "Yeah but a lot of those people may no longer be active!" or "Who would go through the effort of checking that whole list?"

To which I would argue: Most people who are active enough to vote in this poll are probably prolific enough where most people are aware of their presence/where they lived - which means we already (or should at least) have a cursory idea of where most posters live. And if they aren't, then who cares? What does this all mean? Is it actual content creation, or just content aggregation ala Buzzfeed?

The members page doesn't tell where everyone is from. And yes, you could technically compile a list of where each active member is from, but a poll is much more convenient.

That's true, there is nothing wrong with doing a poll, but for someone to post where they are from when it is obvious since usually the state itself is in their post. In other words, I don't have to tell you which state I am from, right?

I'm assuming that you're from Florida, but I don't know for sure.

Still surprised by Illinois' popularity, but Washington and Michigan are continuing to creep up...
