National Democrats are ignoring Zinn, and Zinn says the only reason MS is a non-atlas red state is because national democrats refuse to make any effort in the state:
http://yallpolitics.com/index.php/yp/post/41233/

He has a point - with enough investment in a competent machine in the state, they could at least compete somewhat in MS.

Why bother...the state would rather vote for a mouse with an R next to its name than a Democrat

Because there's a sizable base for the future. It's possible that in 25 years, Mississippi will become a battleground state.
In 2024

Won't happen. Southern Whites are simply too racist

Yeah, but they're dying out. Obama won 18-29 vote in MS last election.

Oh come on, MS! FL would have already completed their vote count and you...

We've always been a slow counting state.

Yep, Lee County just reported a lot of precincts. Kelly's home county.

Zinn's home county is still not in. Same for Clay County. Not over yet.

Zinn's home county is white and Republican.

In statewide elections, the white vote is roughly 90-10 republican and the black vote is roughly 90-10 democratic. This district is actually more conservative than the state as a whole, so I'd say the white vote would be like 94-6 republican or thereabouts.

No, some whites in this part of the state still vote Dem. Obama won 20-25% of the vote in a few counties where blacks only make up 5-10% of the population.

Not surprisingly, 12 of the 13 remaining precincts are in Pontotoc County.

I'll be interested to see who replaces Bennie Thompson in MS-02 in a few years. Zinn won't run for that position, but some (or several) black Democrats will. I'm sure most of you know that MS-02 is the only congressional district in the state where blacks are the majority and has a PVI of D+10.

Yeah, that one could get really ugly...

Whoever Bennie endorses will probably win. Thompson is closer to my ideology than the 3 other MS reps, but he offsets that by being a total idiot. Hopefully someone better will replace him.

Luckett would not have much support in the Delta aside from Clarksdale/Coahoma County. Look at the 2011 Democrat governor primary map. Of course, Delta whites would probably prefer him over any of the black candidates (IF they voted in the Democrat primary).

Coahoma is only the 8th most populated county in the district. Population there has rapidly decreased in recent years, even compared to the rest of the Delta. Luckett would have to expand his appeal to Greenwood, Greenville, Vicksburg, etc. I don't think he'd do well in inner-city Jackson.
