Yeah, no. Espy winning the runoff is far more likely than Hyde-Smith winning by 19.

To top it off, Espy leads him by 15 (!) points in a hypothetical runoff.

This is why "inelastic" is an incredibly dumb and overused term.

I think this is the first non-internal poll we’ve had of the race.

But yeah, Mississippi is the least elastic state in the entire country, the only way Espy would win would be if McDaniel somehow finished ahead of Hyde-Smith, which looks less and less likely as we get closer to Election Day.
Former AG jim hood agrees

I thought Jim Hood was still AG?

That was the point. If MS was as inelastic as people are making it out to be, a) Hood wouldn’t be AG now and b) McDaniel wouldn’t be trailing Espy in polling.
