Holy sh**t man, why are you Austrians so passive while this is happening, how can someone think it's good to receive 50+k Middle Eastern migrants (a lot of them are uneducated, economic migrants rather than war refugees, and they have very little understanding of European culture Cough*Mass Rape Cough* ).

I don't think the European migrants are a problem like Croats or Germans since integration is minimal, even from Less-developet (as compared to Germany/Austria) countries like Croatia, religion is not the Law and people have been influenced heavily by Western media/way of life ever since the War.

I hope you guys save Austria somehow, as I wouldn't like to see such a beutiful place being overrun by Ghettos.
Of course you're right, but saying this will instantly make you a pariah on this forum, because people don't like to hear this Wink

As for Brigittenau, Vienna's 20th district, my aunt and uncle lived there. I've been there quite often. When my aunt was repeatedly called a whore by "teenage guys" for walking on the street (without her husband) wearing a skirt, however, they considered it time to move to Burgenland.

For me it would be a very nice neighborhood to live in (excellent location, relatively affordable rents for Vienna), but I'm a single male in my twenties, so that doesn't say much... Smiley

There are 2 ways of how to see this:

A) Is he competent enough to serve as President ? Yes, definitely.
Someone who believes in chemtrails? This is debatable, but I wouldn't say someone like that would be competent to be the head of state of a country.

What are the chances of Kurz being the leader of the ÖVP in the next election?

The election can be in October 2018. Hard to predict what will happen in the meantime.

The ÖVP now wants a "pledge of allegiance" for Austrian school children starting at primary school, to promote integration.
Well, no they don't. The leader of the ÖVP in Vienna, who, even by that provincial section's standards, is an irrelevant no-namer, has announced his support for it in yet another desperate plea for attention. Shifting right is probably still the best option for the Vienna ÖVP (the voters lost to the Greens and the NEOS just aren't coming back, not to a party viewed as so toxic and pathetic and backward-looking as the Vienna ÖVP is), but I doubt it will stop their permanent decline.

I don't get it, by this you are saying Greens are better than the OVP?
No, he's saying that this isn't an official ÖVP view, it is just the opinion of someone in Vienna's ÖVP. He's also saying that the Vienna ÖVP lost voters to the Greens.

I have just requested my postal ballot online.
Why are you not going to vote at a polling station?

Because I virtually always vote by post.
Hmm, okay. This doesn't exist in the Netherlands, only for people living abroad. I like voting to "feel" a bit special, so I always like going to the polling station and voting there. Also, how can you be sure it arrives?  I wouldn't feel sure about that.

Still fully expect Van der Bellen to do this during the campaign.

Yeah, his name literally means "Van der barking" ...

"Bellen" in German = barking
That was the joke, yes.

The whole point was, that electing Hofer would mean electing a president that will be boycotted by Israel, which still is true.
That's really not going to happen. Israel will maintain normal relations with Austria and with whoever is elected president, whether it's VdB or Hofer.

Interesting at how pro-Israel Hofer is. The relationship to Israel truly is the divide of the far right IMO and it seems very controversial. Some of them are very anti-Israeli (a legacy of you know who and what) but you do see a very new pro-Israeli faction of far right politics.
In countries where nationalism has historically been tied to the resistance movement instead of the nazi movement, such as Denmark and the Netherlands, the far right has been pro-Israel for quite some time already.

It looks like a bunch of Israeli people and children around an ambulance or something. Not that I care much about how it went, nor to defend Hofer all too much - but it seems the FPÖ-delegation was at least nearby at the scene when the woman terrorist was shot by Israeli security forces.
Except that she was not a terrorist...

But yes, I agree with your conclusion -- but it's definitely more Hofer than the ORF that has been making up things.

I guess vdB will win this considering that exit polls tend to overestimate FPÖ support.
Exactly, + postal votes. Meh.

Yet another argument to ban postal/early voting.

Well, congratulations to Cranberry and Tender. As much as I dislike VdB, I don't live in Austria and I don't experience any consequences of this whatsoever; by contrast, I imagine it must have been terrible for you guys (though more so for Cranberry...) if Hofer had won.

And now please tell VdB that he should give passports to the people who fled Austria during WWII, and to their descendants.
