Great news!

May the great people of New York finally get support a governor that backs Democrats.

¿Qué? IIRC, Hochul vehemently hated the IDC. She was just muzzled from speaking about it by her then-boss who didn't.

I'm talking about her refusal to endorse Walton.

Is she obligated to?

Hochul has done a tremendous job so far. I think she'd beat Williams pretty easily. James is still a very strong challenger, if she chooses to run. She may end up hanging around at AG and biding her time for now though.

Well, the last poll and only of value was conducted between Cuomo's announcement to resign and before he actually left. Hochul was already ahead against any challenger(s). Not sure it means much, though even in the not so likely case James runs, Hochul still can win easily. Especially with support from heaviyweights Schumer, Gillibrand and the Clintons. Why should the Democrats even abandon the first woman in the office who's running a scandal-free administration and with a totally different leadership style than Cuomo? Furthermore, James would gamble with a gubernatorial bid since she can't run for her current job at the same time, in which her reelection would be assured.

I think Kathy is also the best candidate for the general election. Even though no Democrat is endangered to lose, Hochul is the best choice to halt or reverse Upstate Democratic losses (especially with Schumer on the same ballot). It's not necessarily a good thing for governor to only get elected by New York City.

I still hope she can run unopposed; just like Brian Benjamin. Not sure anyone has expressed in interest in challenging him?
Its unlikely she's unopposed.

The first Hochul ad is out. It's pretty good I think, emphasizing on her strong Covid actions, cultural change in Albany and other issues important to Democrats. She is so awesome Purple heart

An awesome ad and amazing governor thus far. I don't see James defying the party leaders and running a primary against her.

https://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/politics/ny-voters-warm-to-hochul-dont-want-cuomo-to-return-poll/3318534/

Hochul currently has a 49 percent approval rating with 20 percent unsure.

In a three-way primary with Attorney General Letitia James and NYC Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, Hochul would win easily, at 44% to 28% for James and 15% for Williams.

But in a four-way race with James, Williams and Cuomo, Hochul would still dominate, at 36%, versus 24% for James, 19% for Cuomo and 9% for Williams.

Cuomo's teams insists he has no intention of running again. 77 Percent of voters don't want him too.

as much as I like James and wanted to see her run for Governor at some point ill be voting for Hochul in June. I see no reason to oust her after only a few months in the position and doing a great job thus far.

Dem primary is Likely Hochul at this point; Williams and James will cost each other the most votes. DeBlasio entering would even make it close to Safe Hochul.
De Blasio is almost certain to run.

Looking forward to see all the political careers of these clowns ended in defeat. They're desperately attempting to replace a scandal-free governor who has governed like a Mainstream Democrat just for opportunistic reasons.

Jumaane is the only one who will still be in elected office and may run for something else (like congress) in the future.

You are aware that many said they didn't;t have an opinion in the most recent approval polls.
Lol, you are clueless. Hochul is the third least popular governor in America according to a recent poll. She will face a strong primary challenge by someone who doesn't appoint Bloomberg retreads to their advisory team.

Yes, but approval below 50 is never a sign that a candidate is untouchable.

Also, lol at the people thinking Suozzi is going to split the NYC vote. Nobody in NYC gives a rat's ass about him. He will cut squarely into Hochul's base as a moderate.

Many people don't know her. Only time will tell if he does. I still think Hochul has the advantage.

James OUT

Hochul is now the overwhelming favorite. I don't see any of the other current challengers beating her.

Will this have any effect on Tish James' AG campaign?

I know Dan Goldman is running in the primary to succeed her.

I think its likely several people drop out.

I’m very surprised James suddenly dropped out. I thought she’d try and hope for a decent poll, but nope. But, on to victory Hochul!
as am I. Hochul is the heavy favorite now. I have a feeling her and James made a deal.

Suozzi's moderate politics plays well in some parts of the state, but he won't win.

He should run for Nassau County Executive in 2025.

Do you think he will finish ahead of Jumaane? I don't think so, if he even makes it to the primary.

Yes, because he siphons moderate voters on Long Island, etc. de Blasio probably is last place.

However, with the district attorneys dropping charges on Andrew Cuomo and with him having money still in his account, Cuomo may want to put his name on the ballot by now and April
I don't see Cuomo running again.

Apparently he's looking at primarying James. I hope he does and gets absolutely embarrassed.

I hope he does as well. I can't see him winning a statewide primary.

Could Cuomo even announce this late? Is there any actual basis that the corrupt dude will run? For sure I have a hard time seeing him to get a third of the primary vote.

Any chance this Memerson is fake/bought by Cuomo himself to test reactions?

The filing deadline is April 7th so in theory he could. I have doubts he will run as the entire party despises him at this point.

If Cuomo wants to run he'd better start collecting petitions soon. Once he announced his opponents would start hammering him. I have serious doubts he'd win the primary and if he somehow did he'd be the one candidate who could lose the general.

I doubt a lot a of people would sign his petitions. I know I wouldn't.

Cuomo is appealing to Black and Latino churches because he knows they are more establishment than white liberals.

I don't know if he has appeal.

If he was to somehow get enough signatures I cannot see him winning the primary.

Cuomo would be eviscerated by the Democrats for running, and lose any and all contacts to have a smooth retirement. No way he does this.
Cuomo has such a big ego I wouldn't put it past him.

I can't imagine him winning, but nothing would shock me.

I wonder if he'll get a minor party endorsement and be on the ballot in November.
No minor party is going to give  Cuomo their ballot line.

Cuomo wants to be Gov not Senate but Kathy Hochul is tied with Zeldin she should be miles ahead and she isn't, I don't live in NY but I wanted Gov Bill DeBlasio Hochul is overrated she doesn't stand out like other Govs should and NY is a major media market it's still Safer D but Bill DeBlasio should of had a chance to complete in a D primary voters didn't give him that chance

That is one poll for a not very reputable pollster. Hochul is going to win the primary and general.

Heard Cuomo is announcing tomorrow from someone who works for Hochul. No further details.

I hope no one signs his petitions and no one gathers them. I have doubts he will win the primary but that poll didn’t give me much hope.  We’re cuomo to get the nod he would be liability for Democrats nationwide. I wish there was a way to refuse him ballot access.

If he did win, I'm willing to bet he'd be impeached immediately.
If Cuomo does run all remaining bridges he has in the party would be gone, Few donors would give him any money and Hochul would run devastating ads against him featuring his accusers. I have doubts he'd remain even remotely competitive in the primary.

That’d be hilarious

No it wouldn't be. We don't need to go through that. It would better if he just goes away. If anyone comes to my door with signatures for him I will refuse to say it and tell them they must think very little of themselves to carry signatures for a sexual predator. Would it be a crime to deface the entire page?

April fools joke, right?

BUT if true, I predict Suozzi will immediately drop out and endorse Cuomo, perhaps running for lt. gov. with him.

It might be a joke, though I have a gut feeling Cuomo may actually make a late entry in a quest to win the Democratic primary. He's probably going to lose, but it would be pretty ugly and an unnecessary battle for Hochul to fight.

I think it was. Its to late to jump in now. Petition sheets have to be printed and and signatures gathered by April 7th from across the state. You need a legion of people in every county willing to do that.
