I think the filing deadline for the special election is tomorrow… Palin hasn’t announced yet. I’m assuming she doesn’t run, but I guess we’ll find out tomorrow.

Maybe she's just running for the general election in November, idk, she could just be trying to get attention.

I think it’s the latter. Also, if she wanted to run, why skip the special election and only file for the November general election? It’s an at-large seat, so it’s not like the district lines are changing, and the election dates are only a few months apart.

Wow, I didn't think she'd actually do it. Unless this is an April Fool's joke (which I don't think it is, given today is the filing deadline), here's the official announcement:

I think Palin will be the clear frontrunner, given her name recognition. Yes, she left office unpopular, but that was over a decade ago. She will fit in well with today's Republican Party, and I expect she'll get the Trump endorsement.

Looks like Palin has Nikki Haley’s endorsement. Not a surprise, since Palin’s endorsement of Haley in 2010 helped her win the Gubernatorial primary:

I’m shocked. This makes no sense. Gross didn’t really provide a reason for dropping out, either. My guess is there’s a scandal that’s about to break, so he’s getting out of the race ahead of it.

Anyways, the article states that state election officials are unsure if the fifth place candidate (Tara Sweeney) would be bumped up. They are looking into it.

I think Palin is now heavily favored because of this. While I expect many Democrats will rank Begich second, I don’t think they will think to (or want to) rank Begich first.

Go Peltola!!

Today is a bad day for former Governors being in the House (Charlie Crist resigns, and Palin loses…)

Interested to see what happens for the general now! My guess is Palin will stay in the race, but probably comes in third in November now. I think enough voters will switch from Palin to Begich. Then Begich is probably favored to defeat Peltola (unfortunately).

Do we think Murkowski was Begich>Peltola>Palin? That's my guess at least. Possible she rated Palin second out of partisan loyalty

Perhaps, but I think it’s more likely she voted Begich > Peltola > exhaust. Palin and Murkowski have never gotten along, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if Murkowski didn’t rank Palin.

One thing to consider. I think the Republicans who voted for Palin are the “true believers”. For people saying a lot of Palin voters might switch to Begich in November in the first round, who’s to say a lot of Begich voters won’t switch to Peltola? Especially since she is now the incumbent and she did get a good chunk of his voters’ second choices.

This is a good point, I didn’t think of it that way. This is certainly a possibility as well.

Either way, I think all 3 candidates stay in the race in November, I don’t think anyone will drop out. So it’ll certainly be interesting.
