I think Hanabusa should’ve run for Governor in 2014 instead of Senate. Given Abercrombie lost by 36 points in the primary, I think Hanabusa could’ve easily won that race if she had ran instead of Ige (she may have even won in a 3 way primary race against Ige and Abercrombie).

With Kai Kahele running for Governor, I think Colleen Hanabusa is more likely to run for HI-02 (where she may be the frontrunner) than for Governor (where she probably wouldn’t be favored).

I think if Hanabusa had run for Governor instead of Senate in 2014, she probably would’ve won, given how much Neil Abercrombie lost by. Hanabusa, at the time, was a much more prominent political figure than David Ige was, so she probably would’ve been Abercrombie’s main challenger. Running for Senate in 2014 was a political miscalculation on Hanabusa’s part.
