People on the left don't care that much about gun control.  Gun violence isn't a big problem in Western Massachusetts or Park Slope.
There is more to the left wing of the Democratic party than the people of Massachusetts.

A lot of them live in the "Western Massachusetts/ Park Slope" area of their state.

In Republican states, the "Western Massachusetts/Park Slope" area tends to be very Republican:  think places like Shelby County, AL, Colin County, TX, or Hamilton County, IN.  The Dems concentrate in urban areas and those in lower income segments.

Jfern is right about places like Oakland.  Also, a growing segment of the Democratic base is both very educated and very poor, and a lot of people overlook this with the false dichotomy of elites vs poors in the Democratic coalition.  Some of the most liberal folks in the nation are the grad students/teaching assistants at universities, starving artists, folks with master's in various humanities disciplines doing indie films, etc.

What on earth are you talking about?

Did you just compare Park Slope and exurban Dallas?  I don't even comprehend that.

I was talking about leftist types.  Leftist types aren't generally living in housing projects or 99% black inner city neighborhoods.  Take NYC for example, young poor educated leftists aren't living in Brownsville or the South Bronx.  If they're poor, they have roommates and they live in Bushwick or Harlem.

I thought you were using Park Slope to talk about income, so I was pointing out that similarly wealthy areas in GOP states tend to be conservative bastions and that the preponderance of liberals in a state isn't always in the wealthiest enclave of that state.  I now see you were talking more about the culture of those areas as opposed to income, in which case I'd largely agree with you.  That being said, I bet plenty of black leftists do live in those areas you described; while they may be a different flavor ideologically than what you described, I think many of them would still count as the left wing of the Democrats.
