Remember, when the right-wing says "Anti-American" what they mean is "Anti-Republican". Because to the Republicans, "America" isn't about a set of ideals, it's about them being in charge.
And Democrats believe in "American ideals"? The Constitution, economic liberty, rule of law?...
If by 'economic liberty' you mean limited government regulations, that's never been an American ideal. Only in the warped mind of those who fall for right wing propaganda and revisionist history has that ever been an American ideal in fact or as an ideal.
Thomas Jefferson essentially wanted to limit bank loans to prevent the new industrial expansion as was seen in England at the time of the writing of the Constitution, to maintain the United States as a nation of 'yeoman farmers.' This was why he opposed a central bank. He wanted to greatly limit the ability of banks to operate fractional reserve lending in the hopes of preventing the amount of lending that would have been needed to finance industry.
Of course the comparison is hardly fair to Jefferson, but it serves to illustrate the point, in modern times, the leaders who implemented policies to keep their nations agrarian were Mao Tse Tung in China and Pol Pot in Cambodia.
So much for limited government regulations (or the bullsh**t term 'economic liberty') as an American ideal!
Of course, the reason Jefferson wanted to do this, was for the very valid reason that he was afraid of a nation dominated by very wealthy and powerful industrialists as had developed in England even prior to the Industrial Revolution (the trading corporations behind the explorations.)
Of course, the Republican policies under the bullsh**t term 'economic liberty' have led to this plutocracy in the United States.
So, it was never an ideal in historical fact, and it's only an ideal now to those who fall for bullsh**t propaganda.
