The rate of positive tests in the U.S. just tumbled to 7.25% today. Also the fewest deaths since March 29.

The number of new cases was just a tiny bit over 20,000, despite a lot of testing.

It appears we are now fully on the downslope. At this rate we should be back to normal by July, not even factoring in heat and treatments.

I'd advise against reading too much into todays numbers. It was a holiday on a Sunday. Let's see what Monday and Tuesday bring.

Yes but we still had a LOT of tests for Sunday, 278k which is a lot

Yeah. There are definitely positive things today. Just pointing out Sunday's tend to be less representative on the whole. Not to mention it was Mother's day.

Yeah, if the pattern holds then Tuesday there will be another surge in cases and deaths sadly

I noticed that for a while worldometers was including 3-week rolling averages in their daily case & death graphs, then briefly switched them to 7-day averages, but have now removed the averages entirely.  I wonder why.

They removed it because it was causing problems for the site IIRC

Madison has free drive through testing for everyone who comes in. I went in a couple of hours ago. The COVID-19 test SUCKS. My nose still feels violated.

Disney said they have no plans to reopen their parks until at least July 1st, they're accepting bookings for that date but it is subject to change, new rules will be implemented when reopened

In vaccine news Oxford is so far they're reporting those who got the actual vaccine in their study are doing fine and none showed any bad effects So far 4 Vaccine candidates are doing well one from Pfizer, Oxford, Moderna and Sinovac Biotech.

Though I don't expect a vaccine to be distributed before years end

But Oxford isn’t doing human challenge trials, right?  They just need to wait to see if people in the trials get infected naturally.  I wonder if any of the potential human challenge trials will get useable results sooner.

It’s unethical usually. Given the pandemic...who knows what they are doing. Phase III trials take AT MINIMUM 3 months to get conclusive data, none are in Phase III trials atm, if any do challenge trials you could get results in a month.

Sinovac is in Phase I-II mixed stage at this point, they are asking the WHO to allow emergency authorization to move to Phase III trials in hard hit countries.

Moderna is the one of the big 4 I think has the biggest chance to fail given they're using new tech and using mRNA

Which is why I don't believe a lot of the numbers that are coming up from the tests because a lot of places use the Abbott testing and it's known that it's not accurate

Hope the Supreme Court is happy when this inevitably leads to bad results.

Who cares? Life has risks. Do you make a graph for every other possible illness you might get before leaving your house? This remains all so ridiculous.

I mean if you want to live in a world of delusion be my guest I have no sympathy for people like you if you get it

Anyways in some good news

The ChAdOx-CoV2 vaccine candidate so far doesnt appear to cause ADE and prevents SARS pneumonia in rhesus macaques and they believe they could possibly go into trials with health care workers and general Phase III trials next month

A few days ago, I found the "LockdownSkepticism" group on Reddit. It's proof that people across the political spectrum can get along for a common cause. The rank-and-file right is learning that we don't have horns and cloven hooves like their leaders told them we did. We've all got each other's backs in fighting this.

I'm glad that you found a place where your ignorance can be validated.

Oh yes, we're the ones that have our heads up our asses. Thanks for letting us know 😊

You're one to talk

I still haven’t heard anything real about getting the human challenge trials moving that will accelerate the testing of these potential vaccines.  This seems like such a no-brainer to me.  I signed up to potentially participate on the 1 Day Sooner website, and strongly encourage other healthy people to do so demonstrate the willingness and demand for this.

They already said they arent doing challenge trials

Some experts expect mask wearing to be heavily encouraged until Nov 2021 (18 months) - the general time frame most experts expect a fully functional vaccine to be fully distributed. I still don't know if I buy it

Disney will now make masks mandatory indefinitely for access to any of their parks, or properties. They will also enforce social distancing and check temps of every guest who enters, as well as reduce capacity by probably as much as half as part of their negotiations with the workers unions.

No timetable on when they will reopen, but they are accepting reservations for July 1st and later.

CEO Bob Chapek said people will have to get used to the new culture of wearing masks in the park because the rules might be kept in place even after the virus is handled with a vaccine or what ever
