@roger_scully on twitter:

"Still appears to be the case that UKIP have lost every council seat they were defending."

Are we seeing the beginning of the end of UKIP?
UKIP are dead, IMO. They don't even have the European elections to boost their publicity every five years anymore. They've served their purpose.

Unless they can reform as a right wing alternative to the Conservatives, they have no future.

Independents GAIN Blaenau Gwent from Labour

Independents GAIN Merthyr Tydfil from Labour

Those are both terribly sad psychology for the party; especially Methry Tudfil.

Important to note however these were both from independent surges whereas the Tories are quite a ways back in Wales.
The places where independents are doing well will be interesting in the general election as to whether they'll vote Labour or whether they've been lost by Labour. I'd be very surprised if either are lost by Labour in June.

West of England Mayor (1st Round)
Con - 53,796 (27.3%)
Lab - 43,627 (22.2%)
Lib - 39,794 (20.2%)
Ind - 29,500 (15.0%)
Grn - 22,054 (11.2%)
UKIP - 8,182 (4.2%)

Conservative-Labour run-off. I think Labour may have this one.

A question that I've seen on Twitter that I have to ask here: if Plaid Cymru aren't making major gains from Labour tonight, when will they make gains from Labour?

What the hell kind of title is that? God, these mayoral things... Grin
It's not even what I'd call the West of England. Grin It's more Avon or 'Greater Bristol'. Tongue

Labour are yet to lose a seat in Swansea; Conservatives likely make big gains in Bridgend and Vale of Glamorgan.

The English results appear to be drying up - I don't know if that's because we've ran out of councils that are counting votes overnight or not.

Neath Port Talbot (Lab HOLD)
Lab - 43 (-9)
Plaid - 15 (+7)
Ind - 5 (+1)
Lib - 1 (+1)
Oth - 0 (N/C)

Despite Labour loses, that's a positive result for Labour to retain overall control of the council. Somewhat more positive as well is that Labour's loses don't appear to be going to the Conservatives here, but to Plaid - who'd support a Labour government if Plaid Cymru do pick up any seats in this area in the general election (Neath or Aberavon).
