One slight improvement would be "economically right-wing and socially libertarian". I mean that at least makes sense, although it is pithy and annoying. Why do people even need catchy advertising slogans to advertise their beliefs? Why not settle it to a cute jingle why you're at it?

"Are you liberal or conservative?"
"I'm actually pretty libertarian."
"What's libertarian?"
"I'm economically right-wing and socially libertarian."
"Uh... but what's libertarian?"
"Well, it means I'm economically right-wing and socially libertarian."
"You keep defining libertarian as libertarian, I just want to know what that means."
"ARGH, I'M NOT ALLOWED TO SAY FISCALLY CONSERVATIVE AND SOCIALLY LIBERAL BECAUSE IT UPSETS INTERNET LEFTISTS"
Just say you want less government intervention jesus christ is that so hard.

Or say you hate poor people and your ideology pretty much revolves around being a pothead who doesn't want to pay taxes.

Can you make a single political opinion without resorting to extreme hyperbole and hatred for those who disagree?

I don't speak hyperbole, I speak the unabashed truth.

I mean if you're trolling, then fair enough; but it must be said that it is normally an astute political move to understand how your ideological opponent's minds work, and "they just hate the poor" (while in same cases having the grain of truth) does not hack it.

Understood, but just about every libertarian on the internet has lead me to the conclusion that their ideology is, literally, "lol who cares about the poor?"

I can debate with a conservative. A libertarian lives in a fantasy world.

I've never quite understood why criticizing Christianity is often met with pictures/gifs of fat guys wearing fedoras.  But then I typically understand only 45% or so of internet memes.

i mean, there's a difference between "criticizing" christianity and calling it an "unfunny, played out joke". but of course you wouldn't understand that.

Describing, say, the Republican Party the same way around here might merit a repost in the Comedy Goldmine*, but mocking Christianity gets... a fat guy in a fedora?  The Atlas forum is an odd amalgamation of cynical bastards willing to make biting stabs at every facet of modern society, but take aim at this country's most sacred institution, and suddenly you're... a fat guy in a fedora, for some reason.  I guess I don't get it.

* might

It's because, across the internet, you'll find two types of Atheists. The reasonable, normal human beings who can understand that many people choose to have faith, respect that fact, and when debating a religious person, do so in a normal way.

Then there is the neckbeard fedora-tipper who typically uses arguments such as "religious people are indoctrinated slave sheeple" or "Why can't religious people learn to think for themselves and not follow some sky fairy? Let me cleverly use this Richard Dawkins quote that I always copy and paste in arguments like this so I can show those religious people how to think for themselves!"

The latter tend to be criticized because they almost always come off as worse than whatever they're criticizing.

TNvolunteer, how about you actually give us some proof as to why you think that New Hampshire is a Democratic state?
It doesn't vote for Republicans anymore. Next question?
That's...that's stupid.

Ohio, Virginia, Florida, Iowa, New Mexico, Colorado, and Nevada haven't voted Republican in eight years. Are they solid Democratic states too?

Pennsylvania and Michigan haven't voted Republican since 1988. Wisconsin hasn't since 1984. Minnesota hasn't voted Republican since 1972. Are they all solidly Democratic?

New Hampshire last voted Republican in 2000, and very narrowly voted Democratic in 2004, when the Democratic nominee was a New Englander. Sure, it hasn't voted Republican in the last three presidential elections, but two of those were Democratic victories.

Nobody is saying that New Hampshire is a Republican state (like it was in the 1980s), but it sure as heck isn't a Democratic one.

You put this in the wrong thread.
