Trump supporters will tell us that Trump is the one who really is “populist” and taking on corporate power despite Trump saying stuff like this because Trump makes them feel good .

It is not in fact "populist" to terrorize a private company for speaking out against a law, it's fascist. Both of them are terrible, but I think Trump is dumber and more unpredictable while DeSantis is crueler.

It’s not fascist to take away the special privileges Disney enjoyed for decades and stop them from trying to find loopholes to keep it . Having special privileges by definition is not the free market and they absolutely should be stripped of them .

It’s literally what they’re doing though, attacking them for protected free speech. Government retaliation is illegal, but I don’t think Republicans care. They had no intention of doing this until they hurt Red Tide Ron’s feelings in his safe space of Florida.

Tell me where in the constitution it says “companies are entitled to special privileges” . The government is talking those special privileges away that the government had granted them for decades and telling Disney to play by the same rules every other company has to play by . Claiming Disney has a right to those privileges is gross sense of entitlement but this isn’t surprising coming from the same liberals who think academic freedom means that gender studies programs have a “right to taxpayer money”.

Nobody has a right to taxpayer money or special privileges and if you rely on that then don’t be dumb enough to bite the hand that’s been feeding you .

It has been well established that conservative don’t understand the first amendment and don’t care about government reprisal against it as long as it’s for you.

So companies should be entitled to special privileges from the government and making them play by the same rules as everyone else is unconstitutional. Wow didn’t know liberals loved corporations so much .

Trump is right about this...It is downright fascist to attack a private business for holding differing opinions and seek to use governmental power to punish them. This isn't a concept based on small government. The base if they ever believed in small and limited government should be fearful of DeSantis and reject him.

Companies having special privileges from the government is the definition of big government cronyism and small government is taking that away and making those companies play by the same rules as other companies .

Stop with this "right to taxpayer money" nonsense. Gender studies programs have just as much of a right to being publicly funded as the chemistry department or the economics department. Just because you personally don't like the field, doesn't mean we shouldn't fund it.

Not everything is about you.

Nobody has a right to taxpayer money or special privileges and if you rely on that then don’t be dumb enough to bite the hand that’s been feeding you .

"Don't criticize the government or they may retaliate against you."

Wonderful system you have there, OSR!

Why are you such staunch opponent of the First Amendment?

1. See the level of entitlement by liberals is gross and no you have no right to fund your institutions with taxpayer money . Nobody is stopping them from being  privately funded so no it’s not a violation of your freedom .

2. Losing special privileges is not that much retaliation and it’s laughable to claim it as such. Also this is lol worthy coming from democrats who wanted to punish social media companies unless they “regulated fake news” . That’s a far bigger violation of the first amendment given that was literally the government using private corporations to censor people

Anyway DeSantis’s campaign should attack Trump hard on this and paint him as defending the “special privileges of woke corporations”

Public schools should be funded with taxpayer money. To argue otherwise is just silly.

I know that you like to kiss the ground DeSantis walks on, but you do understand that DeSantis isn't doing this out of principle, right? The only reason he is going after Disney's position is because they criticized his policies.

If you can't see the problem with that, I don't know what else to say to you.

If Governor Newsom went after Wal-Mart for criticizing his own policies, you'd be calling it communism.

1. Yeah but government has the right to say how that money should be spent . That’s called public policy

2. If California gives Walmart special privileges, then hopefully Newsom takes them away and I wouldn’t care what the reasoning is

Not caring about the motivations behind a policy decision is one of the naivest thing you have ever said.

I don’t believe:

1. Anyone is entitled to special privileges

2. Any institution is entitled to spend taxpayer money anyway they like it

If a blue state threatened to defund all university history departments unless they taught CRT, how would you feel?

It would be horrible policy and I’d want conservatives to put up ballot measures to reverse it but it would not be a violation of academic freedom
