More blue states should elect republicans and more red states should elect democrats .

This. That's also why there should be far more competitive House districts drawn by a nonpartisan commission. With more competitive races, politicians tend to play for the center and not the ideological extremes. If you're in a Titanium blue or red seat, there's all too often not much benefit from working with the other side, while you have to be worried about a primary challenger from the far-right or far-left. Since politicians want to be reelected, they consequently move away from the center to avoid a primary challenger.

The problem with a nonpartisan commission is how do we know who’s is truly independent now days . I’d rather have a commission of 5 republicans and 5 democrats draw the maps where 70% of the commission has to agree . If the commission fails to agree then an computer algorithm should draw the maps using a method agreed to in the law .

Even then I don’t think it would really depolarize things cause even in state wide races now , there is a huge incentive to play to the base more than have broad appeal because there aren’t many truly swing voters anymore . The fact that there are only 3 democratic governors in truly red states : KS, KY, LA and 3 Republican governors in truly blue states : VT, MA, MD shows how polarized our nation is .

The fact is the news media here in the US has done an absolutely terrible job covering the news and are in many ways directly responsible for how polarized we are. In fact Id blame the media for how polarized we are more than any other factor, with cable news media being the main culprit of them all.
