Watch Labour MPs singing 'The Red Flag' to mourn the downfall of the Government: BBC video
« on: March 29th, 1979, 1:00:25 am »

Just awful. Why must it have come to this? I have a sense of foreboding about how the country might go. Ted Heath putting controls on union power was good, and Labour empowered the trade unions too much, but the Tories now will have an even more unbalanced policy under Mrs. Thatcher. I don't trust her. Unions are a key part of the social framework of this country and a Conservative Party that is at war with the unions does not deserve to govern the country. I want Ted Heath back. I don't trust union leadership much, but I don't trust Thatcher even more. I'm voting for my local Labour or Liberal candidate in the upcoming general election. And I'm going to go about it flat out!

So sick of these unions striking, they do so much harm to the British economy . I hope the Conservatives do what it takes to destroy the risk that these unions do to  me and my community. Medical workers where I am were slow to deal with a medical emergency that negatively hurt me and my gran , don't they realize other things matter than their pay levels in an economy where inflation they cause hurts everyone? Godspeed to you Lady Thatcher, put those union leaders in their place.

As someone who finds Scottish nationalism rather silly, I hope the SNP doesn't do well in the upcoming election. Labour is not really very wrong to call them Tartan Tories...I could playfully joke they should be taking the Conservative whip.

It is ironic that they have been the most successful from a policy point-of-view under this government than in any other and yet they still voted to bring it down. Their strategy here makes some sense, but it's just nonsensical as a whole. I'm impressed with their courage, though. At least they aren't going out quietly.

As a (disenchanted) SNP supporter I feel this was a bad decision. We stood for our principles, yes, but at what cost?
I feel this is probably a mistake as it will give Labour so much ammunition to attack us on. Labour did its part to live up to its agreements with us...it is the voters of Scotland who failed us. We need to work diligently in the coming years to convince the public to support a Scottish Parliament and eventual independence in the future.

This is a sad day for Britain. This Winter of Discontent - grossly exaggerated in the press as it is - portends trouble for what is good in Britain. I have a bad feeling about this upcoming election.

As for myself...at least me, I'll keep the Red Flag flying here.

I probably would be completely insufferable in the minds of Atlas Libs from 1979-1991 lol cause it would be nothing but winning in both the US and UK (even the Reagan midterms werent really that bad for the GOP) so I would be gloating a lot lol.

Attack on Pearl Harbor MEGATHREAD
« on: December 7, 1941, 1:09:25 pm »

This is a developing story, but it appears that the Empire of Japan has attacked American vessels stationed at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, at around 8 AM local time. Multiple vessels are reported damaged and zeroes have been spotted in the air above Honolulu.

Great darkness has fallen upon our generation. May we be equal to the burden.

Important to remember that this doesn't substantively change the war at all. While this is an attack on US interests, Hawaii is not a state, and a chain of random islands in the Pacific certainly isn't worth going to war over. Roosevelt will know this, and will make the necessary concessions to ensure that peace is maintained. If you think the majority of the American public will be ok with entering a SECOND global conflict in their lifetimes, you're sorely mistaken.

Watch the usual American imperialists claim that this will actually affect the UK's terrible position in Europe, LOL.

I suspect you may be right .

I live in an area that voted for Roosevelt . But how would he explain to his voters why he is involving us in another costly world war ?

How would retaliation against Japan be beneficial to the average American ?

Please tell me this is a joke.

How about securing the continued existence of the United States and our freedoms against the rise of fascist and totalitarian governments across the globe? That seems like something that would interest the "Average American," doesn't it?

How about the average Californian ? Say, from Sacramento ? What would Roosevelt say to a person like that ?

He will probably say the same thing he'll say to every American: That this is a do-or-die moment for our nation and we must confront the cowardly Japanese head-on, whatever the cost. What exactly is so hard to understand about that? This is a brutal, unprovoked, and truly unjustifiable attack on our sovereign soil. A malignant and evil foreign power has arrived on our shores and they must be snuffed out with the full might of American sweat and steel. I will personally be enlisting as soon as I can to repel the dirty Japanese from our borders.

Are you high? I voted for Willkie and I'm German-American, but you don't see me hesitating about this. This is completely beyond local interests or even politics in general. The only path forward is for the US to declare war against the Japanese-German axis immediately, and to marshal all our forces to see peace and freedom return to the world. If this does not happen, everything from Asia to Britain will be plunged into a darkness of totalitarianism that will smother everything in its path, the ramifications of which will be felt everywhere-- yes, including Sacramento.

I guess my question is less about Sacramento than it is about Roseville .

BANZAI!!!

Um Joju is Vietnamese and Japan literally were brutally occupying Vietnam for over a year at that point. If anything Joju would have been in favor of declaring war on Japan before Pearl Harbor as well.

But Roseville … how does that affect Roseville ?

When has Joju been an isolationist

Most of the forum probably would have predicted Carter +2 in the PV vote and Regean winning like 257 ECVs

Most of the Forum probably would be pro Reagan in 1980. This Forum is mainly compromised of college educated young white males which today is a Democratic Demographic but in 1980 was an demographic that went heavily for Ronald Reagan.
