Looks like Bernie as usual doesn’t know how Net Worth is calculated . The vast majority  of their net worth comes from their share of a company not cash . So what he actually would do is destroy most of the companies in America

And yes, he clearly doesn't understand that net worth is not cash. Some people have great net worth, but don't have much cash flow.

LOL at the idea that you know more about this than Bernie. Net worth can be turned into cash. Yes, if Jeff Bezos sells all his shares at once, he'll lose some from the declining stock value, but he can easily convert it to $80+ billion in cold hard cash.

lolno.

Bernie literally doesnt know how net worth is calculated one bit lol , or effect this would do to investments throughout the economy.

He literally probably thinks Billionaires have a billion dollars in cash just lying around that they can pay in taxes.

This is a dumb proposal, but let's please remember that a top tax bracket of 97.5% doesn't mean that those people will be paying 97.5% of what they earn in taxes.

It’s not top bracket of 97.5 it really is top effective rate of 97.5%

Obviously he's not literally suggesting that Gates be taxed $100 billion, and his actual wealth tax plan is nowhere near that level. He's pointing out that, minus $100 billion, Gates would still have more than $2 billion. It's a hypothetical taken to an extreme, not a policy suggestion.

That shows he has literally doesnt know basic Accounting 101 or Finance 101 or even both

That's literally what he's saying though

Again, he has a wealth tax plan that's public, anyone can see for themselves the rates he's suggesting as actual policy. The $100 billion number he's talking about is a point about billionaires in general, and the accumulation of wealth.

"Bill Gates was taxed $100 billion"

Idk, I prefer to listen to his own words

Youre missing the rather important "Say". Its pretty obviously a hypothetical to illustrate a point that you could take $100 billion from Gates and he would still be perfectly fine.

So you think Bill Gates has over a 100 Billion Dollars in Cash just lying in his bank account lol. The vast majority(At least over 90% if not more) of his wealth comes from the shares he owns in Microsoft and if he sells all his stock to pay this tax he wouldnt even receive close to the 100 billion he needs to pay this tax because the stock of Microsoft would plummet.

What you guys aren’t getting is that tweet is highlighting how ignorant of history that tweet is . Civil rights was an issue FDR was pretty bad at , and the idea he was anti war is just hillarious in every way possible

Populist gonna populist. Muh white working class!!!!

Come on, this is the same nonstarter as attacking Biden for his stance on Busing. My views of Bernie are well known, but the notion/suggestion he's a racist is nonsense. There are several things he needs to be criticzed for, but this isn't one of them.

I agree with this sentiment.  It's too bad the Bernie Bros don't since they've been calling Biden a segregationist ever since that Kamala Harris attack.

Yes If i were Biden's campaign manager I would call Bernie's campaign manager and make this deal, either we attack you for this or Bernie comes out and calls out his supporters who have been semaring Biden as racist.

The fact is Bernie hides behind his worst supporters online to do his dirty work for him and its time that he gets called out for that

"A group of prominent Upstate Republicans is preparing to launch a wide-scale effort this week to encourage GOP voters across South Carolina to vote for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders in the Feb. 29 Democratic primary, The Post and Courier has learned.

The Republican plan to impact the Democratic race, emerging just weeks before the “First in the South” primary, has two goals: Boost the candidate who the Republicans believe presents the weakest general election threat to President Donald Trump and pressure Democrats to support closing state primaries in the future.

South Carolina has open primaries, meaning voters do not have to register by party and can participate in either party’s contest. But some conservative activists have long pushed to change that, arguing it would ensure a more pure party process, and they are hoping this effort will win over Democrats to that cause."

Republicans are so terrified of Bernie Sanders, you guys.

Of course, Hillary Clinton also wanted Trump has her opponent, and she only beat him by 3 million votes, so obviously any time any party wants to run against a particular candidate it means that candidate will win.

Let's have some more fun with this. Did you know that the overwhelming elite wanted Carter to go up against Reagan? They thought he'd be easy to beat because Reagan was a right wing extremist who campaigned for spooky man Barry Goldwater

Thats not true I was watching the ABC coverage of the 1980 Election and the pundits were saying they knew that Carter was basically finished , with one of them saying he knew he was finished since early on in the campaign season

A lot of early Sanders stuff sounds like the edgy new-to-history new-to-politics kids I interacted with in college.  The first thing you want to do is learn how everything you know is wrong, and you go through this phase where you say "what if the communists were actually good and Amerikkka bad?"  There's a set of easy talking points you can use, and they're all basically xerox'd into these Sanders clips.

Yes, the Soviet Union was an oppressed, miserable dictatorship with slave labor, zero freedoms, and widespread poverty and famine.  But they had really nice subways, great music and arts and culture and achievements, and the people wanted for nothing!

Yes, Cuba is an oppressive, impoverished dictatorship.  But they have free health care, and it's really good!

Yes, hundreds of thousands of people have died from communist terrorism in Latin America, but it's America's fault for putting them in that situation, and they would be a peaceful communist paradise without CIA interference.

Plus the fetishism of Venezuela in the 2000s (now one of the worst failed nations) and complete ignorance of the failures of communism in Africa and Southeast Asia.

Most people grow out of that phase.  Sanders seems to as well.  That's why I personally don't really care that much about these old clips.  I went through that phase when I was around 13 and would tell my friends that ackshually communism is good and the people are happy and have health care.  But even by the time Michael Moore's Sicko came out in 2007, presenting Cuba as a health-care paradise, I had learned enough about history and the world to recognize that such arguments were disingenuous and devoid of all context.  Sanders took a decade or two longer.  But you don't see him saying dumb stuff like this today.

That said, while I don't think Sanders is going to get into office and be a communism apologist, I do think it's an easy case for the GOP to make.  When we talk about voters, we're talking about people who think Obama endorsed Bloomberg.   They're not going to put these clips in context.  They'll probably think he was saying this stuff yesterday.  Just another example of why Trump would f***ing destroy him, and destroy downballot Dems by tying them to Sanders.

And another explanation for why we keep seeing Republicans encouraging each other to vote for Sanders in our primaries, and Trump's campaign promoting Sanders' "rigged primary" conspiracy theories on Twitter.  Neither of which seem to bother Sanders voters at all.

The difference is Bernie wasn’t a college student when he said all those things in the 1980s , he was in his 40s making those points and he really hasn’t changed much at all politically since then .
