She is already popular with the base, especially the younger base which matters more than people think.

Hahahaha! Nah, the GOP as it's currently constituted is just a last hurrah for the Boomers. When they die, the Party dies with them. I mean, we can debate how much they pay for climate change — does Lachlan Murdoch just surrender his fortune, or does he actually hang? But you get the idea. It would be good for the younger generation to try to separate itself, but, unfortunately, they believe the same things. So they'll be held accountable.

Guessing the "your generation" talk insinuates you're like a 16-year old, which I can only presume to agree with considering you think a Republican Party that survived being single-handedly blamed for the Great Depression is going to literally *die* in our two party system.

The GOP though was pretty much totally lost in the Wilderness for 36 years after 1932 though. Their only election victories were literally a midterm which took place after 14 years of having a Dem Trifecta(1946) , and due to nominating a War Hero(1952, and 1956).

And the GOP that returned was nothing like the GOP that was wiped out , even the Goldwater/Reagan wing of the party was pretty different from the 1920s version of the party so in many ways the GOP did die in 1932 as the party that came back was basically a different party altogether(just the name stayed the same).

That type of defeat wont happen again but I wouldn't characterize a 1932 style defeat as anything but fatal.

I like how literally every Republican in this thread said yes but all the Dems were too busy getting caught up about muh racist Republicans to pay attention to real Republicans lol.

This is true. The vast majority of Republicans, young and old, are eager to push "based minorities" to the top for better optics. Sort of like how Republicans ignore the fact that Democrats are very much an economically right-wing party, maybe even to a further right than them. "Muh racists" and "muh commies" has to prevail to keep voting- thus, support for the government- going strong.

Even in this age of hot takes and trends and realignment predictions from teenagers on the internet ... this is an indefensible assertion.

I do agree in that the statement was extremely wrong, but I will say, that seems to be the direction we are headed in. It is safe to assume at the rate of current ideological trends, the democrats will be more right wing (as in less restrictive) economically and republicans will be more left wing economically some time in the near future.

Have you been following the current Democratic primary lol.

say what you like, but there's a substantial "lesser of two evils" case, from a typical conservative's POV, to back Trump in 2020. And many who see a positive case for the Trump presidency, which is, yes, based off policy.
I'm sure Haley/Ryan can attest to this fact.

Yep! Was a hardcore #NeverTrumper in 2016, but I've been pleasantly surprised by him in office. No crazy NATO withdrawal, reducing the size of government, leaving the Iran Deal - these are all good things, and I'm happy to see them.

Believe me there has been plenty of times I considered leaving the Never Trump train but his behavior is what stopped me from leaving that train and the whole Ukraine thing has ensured that I wont leave the Never Trump Train.

Yes policy is important and if Trump, after he won, said alright now that I won I will stop tweeting nonsense, stop purposefully being divisive, and respected our rule of laws even in the instances it limited him , I would obviously vote for him in 2020 but the fact is these things are something I cant and will not ignore so for that reason I will not vote for Trump in 2020.
