Do you really think being a conservative was that different in 1975 or 2009?  LOL, "party systems" literally switch the affiliations of like 2% of voters in a matter of years...

Reagan was considered part of the conservative wing of the GOP in 1976 , in 2010 he would have been part of the moderate wing of the GOP.

LOL, there wasn't this magical moment in 1976 where we all agreed to meet in D.C. and reshuffle the partisan coalitions is my point.

Actually Reagan moved the GOP platform to the right that year . Then as president since his policies were popular he was able to move the entire country to the right . I'm not saying Dems were conservative then actually the contrary, the country was more left till Reagan and then Reagan moved it in a more conservative way
