I hope people aren't implying the inverse of this is any better.
Implying it isn't?
Fiscal conservatism is a vague term that has doesn't necessarily mean someone is a Libertarian or believes in Corporatism. Most of them believe their policies will help the poor. Social conservatism is terrible in almost every respect.
Fiscal conservatism in the realm of practical American politics isn't vague. When folks claim to be "fiscally conservative", you know exactly what they mean. Small government, tax cuts, big business etc. They may believe their policies will help the poor, but that certainly isn't their priority for the most part.
And to say social conservatism is "terrible in almost every respect" is extremely narrow minded, and incredibly simplistic. I consider myself opposed to social liberalism by and large, but you will never hear me say that it is terrible in almost every respect.
