He was probably going to lose reelection anyways so this probably increases the chances the democrats hold this seat.

Ralston says no one knew apart from the Reids until a week ago. Also: Reid didn't "want to be the old senile guy in the Senate."

I definitely respect Reid for this. As much as I love Robert Byrd, he passed the time that he should have retired by a long shot.

Except Reid was one of the best Majority Leaders of recent times. Leaps and bounds better than Frist, the racist Lott, and of course McConnell.

Heck, if we're naming bad and racist majority leaders like Lott, I'll toss in the forum's favorite Klansman Robert Byrd.

No Byrd is a Democrat. He can do no wrong!

Bringing up the fact that Byrd was a Democrat is not acknowledging party realignment ever happened.

And that Byrd eventually completely recanted for that matter.

I've explained to a couple people on this forum about the context of Robert Byrd's KKK membership before...

It's not at all what most people think.
