Gun control hasn't been significantly enacted since the 1993 Brady law, if I recall. The 1994 midterms buried the hopes for significant control legislation (in retrospect) to the present day. There isn't probably enough support from the coastal areas to outweigh the rest of the country on gun control.
Or more accurately, urban areas are still underrepresented and rural and suburban areas probably outvote them in Congress.
