« Radical Islamism » in France means thinking that schools should be allowed to serve a halal option at lunch.
No. In some muslim neigborhooods, women have a hard time going outside in skirts. By not being allowed, I don't mean it's written in the law of course but they are threatened, insulted and sometimes even assaulted. Police is twenty times more laxist than in America. There is a saying " Policemen in America are tigers, they are sheeps in France." Some people in France, even a member of the socialist party who previoulsy was a member of the government told he feared a future civil war.
Yes, thank you for Francesplaining me. Police violence has been an ongoing, major these in France ever since the gilets jaunes protests kicked off in 2018. By which I mean, recent cases include the death of Steve Caniço in Nantes; music producer Michel Zecler being beaten up in a music studio; continued violence against protesters; accusations of the national police suffering from far-right entryism. It's, my word, quite a long list.
Meanwhile, this week we have seen two left wing commentators attacked by right wing extremists; a white nationalist teenager arrested for planing an attack with a "uranium based" bomb. All of which adds to wonderful cases such as
this unprovoked attack on a teenager for daring to wear a left wing football club's hoodie; the case of an RN politician attacking a left-wing poster with a truncheon; the far right youtuber's video "explaining" how to murder left wingers. The threat posed by Radical Islam has largely consisted of having hysterics of women going swimming or cooking on TV with their heads covered; about the alleged "threat" posed by people denouncing anti-muslim racism; about the less than 1% of children who are homeschooled; or, as in your case, the misrepresentation of a tiny number of cases with the aim of painting a misleading and false picture of what life in the banlieues is actually like. In France, "radical islamism" apparently means just about any visible manifestation of someone's muslim faith.
So, you know, you might want to have a think about where the threat is coming from.
