I think these classes aren't that useful without numbers, because everyone claims to be middle-class even when they're not.

And the numbers need to somehow by tied to cost of living ... the person who makes $200,000 per year and lives in Manhattan is making the equivalent of ~$79,634 in Omaha.  Conversely, making $200,000 per year in Omaha affords you the lifestyle of someone who is making ~$502,296.
