Yeeesssss! I will cement my soon-to-be annual tradition of irrational exuberance towards the Indiana Hoosiers Illinois Fighting Illini Football Team which leads me into a bottom 20% finish!

Still pumped, though!

Can't access this on my work computer, so I am really hoping I go in and do those picks tonight, haha ... have softball, though, so I might forget. Tongue  Is the deadline just before the first game??

Alright, I'm in.  Ready to continue my tradition of mediocrity at this.

Thought about doing a blind homer pick for the Illini at Soldier Field (I will actually be up at Wrigley Field during the game this weekend!), but I really can't see a win.  We aren't even sure we'll have the suspended players back, and that was going to be our only hope.  A win would be awesome, though!

I picked NC State Tongue  I don't think they had a >50% of winning, but my alumnus uncle put together a fairly convincing homer argument for why they could be pretty decent this year, and I wanted another "upset" in my picks.

Pickin' the 10-point underdog Illini this week. Cool

That depressing yet relieving week where I more or less abandon my emotional attachment to college football and just enjoy the other games/tailgating. Sad

My upset of the week: I'm pickin' Purdue.

I won't even watch Illinois. Sad  Got friends and family coming into town (Iowa City) to tailgate, so I will follow on my phone and hope for a miracle.  I plan to stop having to care by the second quarter.

I don't think these upsets ever happen when we expect them regarding Clemson, will probably fall short of happening again.

A stark contrast from the earlier years of my college football life, when my friends and I used "Clemsoning" as a verb with very real meaning.  "#19 Clemson upset 20-17 by [insert 3-5 team] just before program took the step up to being big time" was a yearly tradition, it seemed.  I had a nice list of all of those glorious, program-derailing losses compiled, but Atlas logged me out ... and when I log in, instead of taking me back to my post, everything is erased.  Great feature, Dave.

The Tigers have really stepped it up since then, though.  I miss old Clemson. Tongue

Congrats Tom! And more importantly, congrats America! The witch is dead!

Makes me feel a little better about the shellacking they put on Illinois, LOL.  Though I am under no illusions that Illinois is anything other than a bad football team at this point in time, their losses have, arguably, all been to good teams.  How they fare against a Maryland team that just got put down like a sick pet vs. Iowa will tell me much more.  Need to check out this week's picks and try to stay near the top. Wow, just checked the scoreboard - RINO TOM continuing to prove that consistent mediocrity is the quickest way to the top (nearly a point per week ahead of everyone despite being the leader in zero weeks!)

LMAO, shut it.  The real key is knowing which programs will always disappoint no matter what and when to appreciate some home cookin'.

Did you learn enough about Illinois this week?

Yes, more than I cared to. Sad  Glad I have a wedding this Saturday.

Even though the Iowa-Illinois matchup is too utterly irrelevant to make it into our pick 'ems, I did pick the Illini in my work league. Smiley  Of course, my actual prediction is Iowa wins 42-31, but hey ... what the hell, why not?

Need to change your avatar from R-IL to RIP-IL

LOL, I was dead inside Saturday ... until I drank all 63 points away that night.

This has to be the end of the Lovie era at Illinois... right?  You can't come back from this.

Unfortunately, there are a few million reasons why it likely won't be, but ... man.  That was pathetic.  Truly a team that quit, and regardless of win total I don't think this season can be considered an improvement on last year after that debacle.  I'm off the bandwagon officially, and I support a change.

In Illinois-related news, Lovie Smith received AN EXTENSION?HuhHuh

Not gonna criticize the move because hey, maybe it will pay off. But have fun going up against Frost and Fleck, who will have similar roster experience as well as two of the three longest tenured real P5 coaches for good reason.

Brohm would be wise to get out.

Between football and politics, it's like RINO is living in hell and we all get to watch.

But seriously...  lol
