Been really off my movie game lately. Sad  With some vacations coming up, I doubt I will see a new movie until Annihilation hits theatres (which looks amazing and RIGHT up my alley).

Saw Annihilation.  Thought it was really good, and it definitely deserves points for being unique/not following TOO many tropes (and I guess credit should go more to the book for this, though I read that the film departed from the novel in many ways).  This is hardly a spoiler, as the preview and first scene show a comet crashing into a lighthouse, but a good example is that we shouldn't assume an "alien" entity visiting Earth would embody ANY human instincts, including conquest.  It's pretty abstract and cool in that way.  It also succeeded in breeding tension the entire time; my girlfriend is not a horror movie watcher at all (not that I'd call Annihilation horror), and she was squirmin'.  I thought the ending was pretty bizarre, but it wasn't bad.

Overall, I approve.  I want to see it a second time before really cementing my opinion of it, though.

Saw Tomb Raider. As far as videogame movies are concerned, It's one of the best, and is a damn good movie in its own right.
Why doesn’t she shoot him in the back when it’s just the two of them in the tent?!?!

Tomb Raider’s mine, to be clear.

Grew up an avid Tomb Raider player with my dad and own the newest game (but hardly ever get a chance to play).  Definitely going to see that one.
