If the U.S. didn't talk about "spreading democracy" and wasn't far far more vast as a power [the left loves cutting the tall poppy], no one on the left would care much.
It should also be noted most of the "imperialism" is merely because The Ural Mountains didn't go far enough south to make the necessary barrier to defend Moscow, and going west to Europe left more resistance. Russia has always been very honest about "defend Moscow".
