its repeal only has 75% approval among the public and everyone knows it would take at least a few hours to repeal [not create] the law! That 75% approval would surely be filibustered by every single Republican as things with 75% approval often are...

In addition to human rights issues, how important is American security, the dignity and existence of our soldiers' careers, or protecting our soldier's lives due to a better equipped army, anyway?  I totally support this.

The Obama administration's plans for Don't Ask, Don't Tell are pretty clear at this point. They will call on Congress to repeal the law...in some way...at some point in time. And not a day sooner.

Someone should explain to Obama that pandering to Christian conservatives is not going to make them hate him any less.

He's not, he's pandering to the military bureaucracy within the US government

Just like he did with the torture photos and military tribunals and state secrets and all of the other stuff he has reversed his opinion on

Maybe he doesn't want to end up like Kennedy.

He's trying to get the CIA and the military establishment on board with him and they are largely skeptical of [the peacenik?] Obama and sometimes on the traditionalist side of things.  He knows he needs a working relationship with these agencies and wants to convince them that he is a pragmatic leader and not one of them "liberty trumps security" ideological activists.

I do not accept this as an excuse though
