If too many more ads are released today, they will start to outnumber McCain's houses Wink  Sorry, couldn't resist.

The two Obama ones are the actually decent ones with good production values.  The McCain one is pretty good but still slightly pathetic and unoriginal.

So, Planned Parenhood hits back McCain over that kindergarden sex scandal he had:

Obama has a negative spot:
http://link.brightcove.com/services/link/bcpid1185304443/bctid1789003018
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-ae409tJEI
FINALLY, the first humorous, well-designed attack ad!

Obama has a positive spot:
http://link.brightcove.com/services/link/bcpid1185304443/bctid1788949433
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3F18zVblJ8
Lookin' ok.  Little bland, but good

And a hilarious animal rights group puts out a 60er asking, "Do you really want someone who supports dangerous hunting legislation to BE YOUR VICE PRESIDENT"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQobIUE1zTU&eur

Oh and McCain has one asking "Which side are they on?" in SPANISH
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QyKGHvRL2_U&eur
Don't bother unless you speak the tongue

edit: I found some youtubes for the Obama spots.

TWO MORE:
McCain releases yet another ad accusing everyone of ganging up on poor Sarah
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-b0pSXmT10I&eurl
Airing in 'key states.'  I don't have the heart to find the script.

Sigh.

Talk about taking quotes out of context, all you see is that Obama/Biden called her "...good-looking..." and "...lying..."

The RNC puts up a radio ad saying Obama is more of the same
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mo0b_tlZBPI

EDIT:
ANOTHER OBAMA NEGATIVE SPOT RELEASED TODAY.  INSANE
http://link.brightcove.com/services/link/bcpid1443726305/bclid1785302206/bctid1790936281
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5JLjhKkvjDo
It basically accuses McCain of being in bed with lobbyists.  It has medium production values and no originality.

New McCain radio ad on McCain/Palin's promise to invest millions in stem-cell research, promising change, and declaring themselves to be Mavericks

Oh, and the Obama negative spot is 100% absolutely baiting McCain to start becoming defensive on his age to try and change the victimhood conversation in the media away from Palin to something that's not a winning issue for him.

I really doubt that animal-rights group actually has any money.  If it gets any airtime it will be through the media.

i can't get the two Obama ads to load.

Works for me.  Make sure you have the latest video players.  They are called "still" and "change" if you want to search youtubes released in the last day.

Well sorry, my computer won't open the brightcove ones and I have a brand new computer.

I found a Youtube on the negative ad, you guys are out of luck on the positive ad.  Now linked with the initial post.  Again, I always use Brightcove since that is how the Obama campaign releases them to the press.  I suggest making sure you have the latest Realplayer download and plugin for firefox.

The Brightcove one worked on my Firefox, but it took a while to load.

The 1982 ad is good. First of all it doesn't just focus on McCain's age or inability to use a computer. It's got the whole future vs. the past thing going on, which is on message. They need more like it.

Indeed, they finally figured out how to make an attack ad.  McCain's camp figured it out ages ago but now seems to be forgetting how.  The trick is to have an overarching message and then have a "hook" so that it gets replayed a lot in the media and gives the pundits something to talk about.  If that hook is favorable ground for you ("Should Obama criticize McCain for being so out of touch technology-wise?") and the overarching message fits in with your campaign theme, you've just made a great ad.  That's why McCain's celebrity and Moses-type ads were so succsesful - they brought in images of Paris Hilton for the media to jump on.

If the media narrative switches to Obama's fair/unfair attacks on McCain's age/computer use, then that's a lot better discussion than whether Obama is sexist and picking on Palin.

I don't think any of these ads are very good, actually.  Fortunately for both campaigns, the news will be suspended for at least a day or two to deal with Ike, maybe more.

Really?  I mean, the only one I would give an A- or higher would be that Obama negative spot.  It's catchy and draws the attention the second time you see it, but more importantly, like I said, it has a "hook" to generate news coverage (Obama attacks McCain's lack of computer knowledge) which can help speed the topic of discussion away from Palin.  It keeps up the change theme and the economy theme.  I mean, what else could one want from an attack ad at this point in time?  It's spicy without being petty, it's on-message but fresh, and it's not about Sarah Palin.

I mean, obviously it's not the most powerful ad ever, but to me, it fulfills the role asked of it perfectly.  The most powerful ad ever would not be released during Ike, so, I think it's almost flawless.  Not ever ad needs to shake up the entire election to do its job.

Eh, but it will rekindle political discussion a bit about "Whether a man who can't use a computer is qualified to lead the world" and has an outside chance of baiting McCain into playing the ageism card.

You're assuming every ad wants to dominate the news cycle.  Also, the ad probably isn't even airing for another week.  It's just been released to the press today.

Oh, and also, whenever McCain wants to get an ad more new coverage, he just slightly modifies it and then re-releases it.  Usually the modified version removes some part of the ad that's easily refuted (like a falsehood), making it more difficult for news anchors to give the opposing campaign's counterargument.  I suppose Obama could always re-release it and is simply testing the waters right now by releasing the first version during Ike.

...except most Americans love Sarah Palin.

If you're going to go after Sarah Palin, you don't go after her trustworthiness or leadership, you go after McCain for making a tactical political decision instead of a leadership decision - and thus being "more of the same."  But Chris, that is an AWFUl idea for an ad.

Obama should not be talking about Palin unless asked a question in an interview.  Pretty much like McCain and Biden.  If this election is a referendum on Palin, Obama loses.

After two weeks, yes.

But after two months?

That's up to debate.

A majority of swing voters are not going to dislike Sarah.  Sorry sir.  If they really hate anyone who is inexperienced then they are already sold on McCain.

Indeed, but in order for YOUR assertion about what a successful attack ad would entail, YOU have the burden of proof.

I'm saying it's not going to work and you are saying it is.  My assertion to the contrary means that our two assertions cancel out and you have to get your case together sir.

All indications thus far is that attacking Palin isn't going to work.  That's why McCain is releasing several ATTACK ads that are accusing Obama of attacking Palin when he wasn't.  McCain's team of strategists and poltiical analysts (who are prob better at analyzing than you or I) has determined that if the public feels Palin is under attack, then McCain will do better.  So, at this junction in time, it's pretty clear that attacking Palin would simply feed into the McCain campaign's message.

Could thing change?  Yes.  Will they?  Probably not until one can be persuaded otherwise.

There we go, your move.
